Nice to see all the Christians celebrating Sábado de Gloria with such devotion. I'M JUST KIDDING! Gangsta rappers are insulting families and decent people just outside my window in Plaza del Artista trying to shout over a very talented trio of young guitarists playing soft jazz and soft Mexican pop music with their small speakers turned down way below distortion level. It's pretty disgusting. And as usual, no sign of anything resembling public authority except for the hardest-working folks who clean up the plazas and walkways. Not even a Reglamentos guy in sight. Lupita so far won't allow me to get involved. The public likes the guitarists a lot. So do we.

Playa Las Gatas got closed down this Saturday afternoon, and they stopped allowing people there after it passed the limit of 4,000 people. It should be much less. Both Las Gatas and Isla Ixtapa suffer serious deterioration in their marine habitats from too many visitors and pretty much zero vigilance by anyone able to prevent people from damaging what's left of the once abundant coral. Both places should be declared Áreas Naturales Protegidas as should Playa Manzanillo.

Our absolutely picture-postcard-perfect weather continues. Our visitors are certainly getting what they came here for. The smiling faces speak for themselves. Hot sun, warm sandy beaches and cool water. Heaven!

We sit on the pier in the evenings often, watching families return from Las Gatas, and it's always surprising to me when they get all excited seeing fish or rays off the pier - as if they didn't just come from the beach. But, then, there is NOTHING living between the restaurants and the rock breakwater at Las Gatas. O.K., maybe one erizo. So, they could spend all day in the water and not see one fish.
