There's a large brush fire that started this Saturday afternoon on the hill in Colonia 12 de Marzo and El Embalse, and it looks like it's spreading towards Nuevo Amanecer. Hope it doesn't work its way over the hill to La Ropa. I don't believe it's damaged any buildings yet, from what news I've been able to get, but it's close to many heavily populated neighborhoods. This is the season for fires, and they've been popping up all over, so please take precautions if you live near a wooded area.

Marea roja has been detected in Zihuatanejo Bay. It was quite obvious this morning on part of Playa Principal, and this evening there was a patch of it on the west side of the pier. You can see it and smell it. Some yellowish and greenish sea foam appears to be accompanying it. Do not eat shellfish of any kind while there is marea roja present in our waters. It can make you very sick. Expect to see some dead fish washed up on beaches within the next few days as the patches of marea roja grow and combine.

My wife and I were a bit surprised to see so many visitors here this morning. Apparently several busloads arrived, and we saw their passengers with their luggage on their way towards the pier to await the water taxis to Playa Las Gatas.

No, the cruise ship SH Diana didn't show up, though it did cruise past our part of the coast. Oh well. Not the first time this has happened. I had my doubts when I listed it, but since I had actually been able to find arrival and departure times for it, I listed it anyway. No more ships are scheduled until the Norwegian Jewel on November 12.
