Thanks to the mayor's wife's political campaign, which officially started today, downtown residents were awakened at first by leaf blowers cleaning the streets at 5:30 on Saturday morning. Then other residents on their way to work had to wait while her contingent of joggers blocked the roads they were running including calle La Boquita from Plaza Kioto and Juan N. Álvarez. With all the cement her husband poured for the ciclopista, folks were wondering why they didn't use it instead of holding up traffic for people who had to work. The very first day of official local campaigns, and we're already sick and tired of them. It's gonna be a long month!

Saturday was another mild day of absolutely gorgeous picture-postcard-perfect weather. A slight hint of sea fog along the coast started the day. The big waves of the mar de fondo kept coming and going, and every now and then a big set of waves would whomp the beach and the pier. Fishing pangas were secured extra carefully and as high on the beach as possible in case some of the big waves reached them.

I couldn't detect any sign of the marea roja in Zihuatanejo's bay from our vantage point or in any of the webcams. No dark patches of water. No fishy smell. But Troncones got whacked with a bunch of sea foam. Not sure if it lasted all day or was just with the morning tide. The water continues cold but warming, comparatively speaking, almost reaching 25°C in the bay today. Any day now a little puff of wind from the south will change everything.

[image]This is a good time of year for diving and snorkeling, before the rainy season when the water is as clear as it gets. For an unforgettable experience, I recommend a diving trip with my dear friend Thierry from Carlo Scuba based at Playa Las Gatas. Thierry is a 3rd generation local diver, and no one knows our local waters better than he does. He offers exciting guided tours of the best dive spots around as well as instruction and certification. Fully PADI qualified.
