The 4th Sonnet of my Balcony Marionette
These Shakespearean sonnets are observations of locally purchased marionettes hanging from my balcony rafters. I used a Pinocchio theme: what would the puppets want to be if granted their wish. I also used Mexico as inspiration such as colour, history etc. All in iambic pentameter, taking a few liberties with the turn/volta.
He’s a roja-suited fun faced devil
On his head he wears negro horns for death
Evoking the fight between good and evil
There is no devil and surely you jest
His suit is red for the blood of the dead
Id and ego, the same old ensemble
He only exists in my brainwashed head
El pueblo invento el diablo
Be Happy
Be Bashful
Be Devil may care
And you will be a real devilish boy
Pray for Mexico to one day have said
“Let revels begin, our devils are dead.”

Señor, is there anyway you could record yourself speaking this lines? I hope I speak for others when I say that I feel we are missing something just reading them. Like the offerings from the Bard, the words don't come alive until someone breathes life into them. If you need a place to house them on the InfernalNet, please send me a private message.
Asked by someone who a million years ago used to listen to recordings of Richard Burton recite Shakespeare, much to the chagrin of his family.

He has a lovely terrace/balcony with lots of room below it. Bet he would perform for us and the marionettes!!!
The 4th Sonnet of my Balcony Marionette
It’s only the 4th of twelve so do not be hasty as you may not like them all (but they all rhyme). I do want to have a reading with the corresponding puppet dancing. Yes, each sonnet is based on an actual puppet. I am not sure of the castillo. Brenda’s Bar on Pedro Ascencio has an excellent spot for a puppet show.
I plan on posting one sonnet every week. Our host himself wrote “keep them coming”.
The poems took me several months to write. I carefully observed and made notes about each marionette and researched what the predominant colours symbolized in Mexico. I used my personal knowledge of Mexico etc to complete the sonnets. I also read extensively about Shakespearean sonnets and read many examples of sonnets.
Thank you for reading.
