¡Feliz Día de las Madres!
This Friday, May 10, is Día de las Madres in Mexico. It isn't an official day off, but it might as well be. Many people will take the day off to celebrate with their mothers. Restaurants and florists will be very busy. Hopefully many of our musicians including the mariachis will also be very busy. Teachers are saying they won't work and are taking off until the 20th, which of course has a lot of parents upset. Hopefully they will be made to work.

La Ropa, Las Gatas and much of La Madera are without electricity at the moment. Many of us haven't had internet since around 2PM this Thursday. Not a word in what passes for any of our local news media about the blackout and internet outage. Not a peep. Just election crap. Wednesday much of central Mexico suffered blackouts due to the effect of the heat wave affecting parts of the country, but we aren't having a heat wave here on the coast, and Petacalco is supposed to be more than able to generate the electricity we need, unless its energy is being diverted to other parts of the country. I feel bad for all those folks who weren't prepared for a blackout. This is just like the Zihuatanejo I fell in love with 50 years ago when there simply wasn't electricity most of the time, and we all used kerosene lanterns and lots of batteries for our radios and cassette players.

This Thursday, jueves pozolero, was another picture-postcard-perfect day weather-wise in Zihuatanejo and along our coast. The large waves from the mar de fondo continue. They make wonderful sleeping sounds for those of us fortunate enough to live near enough to the coast to hear them. The water remains cool, between 24.2°C and 25.8°C, which is odd for this time of year.
