Puppet Sonnet Numero Seis
Again, the theme of the Sonnets is “What one wish would each puppet make and what would it have to do to make it come true?” Inspired, of course, by the story of Pinocchio, some Mexican culture and the puppets themselves.
For martyrs and death, wears pants of amarillo
To guide souls a loin cloth of naranja
On top he wears the head of el ciervo
For marigold petals he shakes a maraca
Bo Diddley had Jerome Green play maracas
Chachalacas make noise to raise the dead
And then Sly Stone said boom shaka laka
Shake Maracas, marigold petals spread
Be in time
Bring the groove
Promote the pulse
And you will be a real baterista
From the underworld, follow petals of marigold
Follow beats of different drums, watch your world unfold

And once again thank you for being my only fan! Probably the wrong place for poetry but I am committed to posting all 12 now.

There are many of us quiet and unassuming fans of poetry. Your offerings are welcome additions to our little family.
I have been reciting these aloud with the intent to record and post them for all to hear. Sadly, I am not doing them justice. We need a bass or baritone. Any takers?
As a big fan of poetry, I can recite some from memory but they are typically whimsical poems that do not require serious vocal abilities. Here is one of my favorites, paraphrased from E. B. White, the author of Charlotte's Web:
If the world were only challenging
There would be no problem.
If we only had to deal with temptation,
It would be easy to overcome.
But I awake each morning with the desire
To save the world,
And savor the world.
And that makes it difficult to plan the day.
Puppet Sonnet Numero Seis
became a big fan of Elvis Costello in the 80s, people looking for a new rock Messiah as the aura of Dylan (or Zeppelin) faded and hard-edged music like the Clash of the Pretenders degenerated into cheese (eg Milli Vanilli, or electro-schmaltz, Baby dont hurt me). Some of the double entendres are quite witty, a Brit trying to make sense of sprawling NYC.
NEW AMSTERDAM
You're sending me tulips mistaken for lilies
You give me your lip after punching me silly
You turned my head till it rolled down the brain drain
If I had any sense now I wouldn't want it back again
Down on the mainspring, listen to the tick tock
Clock all the faces that move in on your block
Twice shy and dog tired because you've been bitten
Everything you say now sounds like it was ghost-written
Back in London they'll take you to heart after a little while
Though I look right at home I still feel like an exile
Somehow I found myself down at the dockside
Thinking about the old days of Liverpool and Rotherhithe
The transparent people who live on the other side
Living a life that is almost like suicide
New Amsterdam it's become much too much
Till I have the possession of everything she touches
Till I step on the brake to get out of her clutches
Till I speak double dutch to a real double duchess
