Question for permanent residents. When you fly down here, do you ask for the fMM tourist tax refund?

I sometimes do.
I book my flights online. To get the FMM fee reversed, I have to phone in and wait, and wait.
Then I have to explain the topic to someone who sometimes has no idea what I am talking about.
Then I have to convince them that I really am a permanent resident. Typically that involves taking a photo of my card and either emailing it to someone or uploading it to a link.
Then I have to monitor my credit card statements to make sure it really was reversed. And I might have to do it again.
Sometimes my time and hassle reduction is more valuable than my US$30(?) contribution to the Mexican economy.

Alaska lets you email proof of residency and they credit the method with which you paid. Easy. I will admit that we only have left once in 7 years.

Twice I sent copies of my permanent residence, boarding pass, etc. to Aeromexico's office in Mexico City...never got a reply.

Alaska has the ability to fill old an old fashion paper form at the Zihua airport upon one s departure. this will require educating the Alaska airline staff who only work part time at the Zihua airport. They send the form to Seattle I believe and it gets credited back to the card the payment was made on.

Remember, you have 30 days after each posting to use the EDIT feature to make corrections.
Delta Airlines just told me that I have to contact them after the flight to get a refund and it took time to get this answer as no one knew about it. My refund would be $42.02

In dealing with WestJet, they gave told me I have to provide all of the documentation before boarding.
When I did that one year at the airport, WestJet said “No, you have to do it before the day of flying. Otherwise we have already forwarded the FMM payment to the Mexican government and we cannot recover it.”

We are also trying to get a refund through Delta. There is supposed to be application. Two contacts have not gone well.

Alaska Air has long been aware of this process to refund the Mexican tourist tax for permanent residents, but it still takes educating and persistence. Be the squeaky wheel!

Just a gratuitous reminder that if you take in a few days in San Diego, cross the border, and fly from Tijuana direct to Zihua, there would not be any need to navigate a Byzantine bureaucracy to get a $35 refund.
