150 hectares of forest in the sierra of Zihuatanejo has burned for days without any response whatsoever from the authorities in Zihuatanejo. Unacceptable! Mesas de Bravo and its people are in danger, and all local authorities care about is inducing the vote for the mayor's wife (whom I like) as if we needed a dynasty. This has been the absolute worst municipal administration regarding Zihuatanejo's ecology!
Still no rain in the forecast, and folks are getting nervous because the rivers and streams are drying up and the fires continue raging. It doesn't look like my prediction of June 1st for our first rain is going to hold up. Bummer. Meanwhile, the heat continues unabated. A slight breeze in the afternoon helps, but not much.
The danzón dancers are having a wonderful and elegant time in Plaza del Artista this evening. They really make Friday evenings quite enjoyable here. Come and watch and join in if you feel so inclined. Everyone is welcome. This is some of Zihuatanejo's culture from decades ago.
Quite a few people report seeing a whale shark in our waters during the past few days. First near Isla Ixtapa and later near los Morros de Potosí.
Tucked away on a quiet street in La Madera neighborhood is the lovely vacation inn, Villa Cruz del Mar. A colonial-style home converted into a small family-run vacation inn featuring 12 comfortable air-conditioned rooms, some with kitchenettes, all with cable TV, surrounding an enclosed garden courtyard with a pool. Free wireless internet access and secure parking. Located less than 100 yards from the beach.

Aunque fue un día perfecto para ir a la playa, casi no había nadie en Playa Principal debido al muy poco turismo.

My May 30 prediction for rain has come and gone, as yours seems to have done. My sweetie wants June 5, our 48th anniversary, it has been correct in the past, but doesn't look great for this year.
We all need to do our rain dances!!!

Reminds me of one of the great comic lines by George Carlin. Imagine an Indian tribe like the Sioux, with their sargeant reading out the days notices to the warriors:
"And don't forget the big rain dance on Saturday night, weather permitting."

Thanks for the link to Eydie Gorme and Los Panchos. She and they were terrific.
