Rob is correct that you really don't need an immigration lawyer when you are applying for the Temporary or Permanent Visa. The instructions are fairly straightforward. However, I found it comforting to hire someone. She confirmed that what I was doing was correct and helped me with the process. She even accompanied me to pick up the card in Mexico. (The first step is done at a Mexican embassy in your native country.) To top it off, the fee was more than reasonable. She charged me only MXN$1,000 pesos in the summer of 2021. I thought it was well worth it.

There is no shortage of people who will offer their services as your bilingual assistant, though to avoid any regrets, disappointments or misunderstandings, I strongly urge you to learn Spanish and not to rely on people translating for you.
