There was actually a nice cool breeze this Sunday morning as well as a bit of cloud cover, though still no rain. However, it continues looking like the rain will reach us during the latter part of the coming week. It sure is taking its sweet time. The late arrival of the rains means that many trees won't survive the dry season. They can only hold out for so long, and their stress is even greater when they're surrounded by cement, increasing the ambient temperature and severely restricting the amount of any water they get even when they're watered. Why couldn't we have elected a tree farmer instead of a cement company owner?

Water is getting scarcer, and some colonias haven't had water for weeks. But the selling of land and the construction of condo projects continues unabated. Madness! And unbridled greed. Heck, the builders couldn't care less if the people who buy their condos never have enough water. A damn shame to see Zihuatanejo to see prostituted, but as with Florida where I used to live, local politicians have never met a developer's money they didn't like, and a mayor who owns a cement company is even more anxious to sell them his cement. This is how you kill a place called paradise: you bury it under cement.

The shoreline has been full of lisita (mullet), especially in the mornings. From the pier to the canal, the length of Playa Principal for the past several days the shoreline has simply been alive. Fishermen with rods might catch their predators, but lisas have tiny mouths and are usually caught with a net. They're delicious dried and smoked.

The bay water continues to appear clear and inviting. A few waves continue, but not too big. Bathers appear to be in ecstasy, and I still haven't seen or heard of anyone having a problem with malaguas at Playa principal.

For folks who are here, I hope you'll come enjoy the folkloric dancers at the Cancha Municipal this evening. This is their final night. Their shows have been beautiful so far.

A lovely two-bedroom, two-bath open-air traditional home located on a low hill just a short walk from La Ropa Beach. Features a full-kitchen, daily maid service and wi-fi internet service.
