I hope sons and daughters everywhere were at least able to communicate with their dads today and hopefully show them some love. Dads need some mushy stuff every now and then even if they do act like detached macho beasts and mad men a lot. Nothing like the love of a child (or grandchild) keeps a dad (or granddad) well tethered to reality.

Some of us felt the 4.5 earthquake that hit just off the coast of Lázaro Cárdenas this afternoon. I did. A reminder that at any moment our world can literally turn upside down, so let's be nice to each other.

So Saturday there was a shootout downtown in front of Banco Santander when would-be bank robbers tried to steal the payroll for the municipio of La Unión from the mayor who was walking out of the bank with his escort who repelled the agression and sent the robbers fleeing. Probably not related to the bullet-riddled but still alive person found in the streets of Colonia Vicente Guerrero just before sunrise this morning. A shame our mayor has done nothing but enrich himself with the municipal budget instead of investing in public security including a high-tech security camera system with a team of experts and professional well-paid well-trained police to actually catch criminals like Claudia Sheinbaum did while she was mayor of Mexico City. That's what real mayors do. Not just enrich themselves.

We got a little more rain last night. Not as much as the night before, but more is in the forecast, and once again, things look like they could get quite interesting by the end of the week even though we still aren't seeing tropical waves pass by.
