Placeres SenZIHllas
This Monday was one of the warmer days we've had for a while. A rain would feel good this evening, but the only possibility of one appears to be early Tuesday morning according to the forecast. No serious rains in the forecast until later in the week.
A large parcel of land on the beachfront at Playa Larga has recently been clear cut for a development of some kind. Most likely for a condo complex or hotel. Quite the ecocide. Nothing was left alive on the property. Hard to imagine that a Manifiesto de Impacto Ambiental (MIA) was approved, but par for the course for the current city government to approve, considering they're carrying out their own ecocide at La Ropa apparently without an MIA. Gee, why have any laws at all? The clear-cutting of land is the ugly side of tourism development, and there's also a large parcel on the hill above Playa Las Gatas that someone else got away with clear-cutting. I wonder if any neighbors complained? A damn shame to see such unsustainable practices continue in this day and age.
Tourists are arriving and enjoying themselves. Got a kick out of seeing a family enjoying a large picnic under my window yesterday before the sun got high and the shade disappeared. Plaza del Artista is an oven during the middle of the day. Same as everyplace else covered with cement. Families have tents and umbrellas set up on the beach, and everyone appears to be having a good time. Always a pleasure to watch families and friends having a good time on vacation as long as they clean up after themselves. Thankfully most do nowadays. Only the drunks remain a problem.
Maybe some of you have noticed an increased military presence in town. Around a hundred soldiers are being quartered in the Centro Social. Not sure how long they'll be here or if they're part of the contingent that will be permanently based here when their barracks are finished on the hill near Riscalillo, I believe it is. But we need all the help we can get. Acapulco is having a rough go of it, and we don't need that situation to be repeated here, though our local politicians sure seem to be following the same script. I believe most locals are thankful for the increased military presence, though we tend to trust the Marina more than the Ejército.
One of the nicest lodgings at Troncones that seems to have something for everyone is Casa de La Sirena. A luxurious private beachfront compound in Troncones featuring a 3-bedroom villa with a private pool, three 1-bedroom MiniVillas, and two side-by-side 2-story 1-bedroom bungalows that share a pool. Truly an oasis in paradise!
