Un Destino ZIHngular
Kids were back in school this Monday, over 26,000 of them in Zihuatanejo, and local beaches were mostly empty. Hardly a visitor around anywhere, a scant few. Streets were quiet most of the day. A stark contrast to last week even though it was also a slow tourism week.
But our weather remains perfect, though storms are rolling in this evening and are in the forecast for the next few days. Hopefully we'll get some much-needed rain.
Due to the lack of any serious rain, the water in the bay remains quite clean and clear. Unusual to see it so clear at this time of year.
Oh, and a correction. Several days ago I said the dredging in the lagoon "Las Salinas" would continue for 3 weeks more. I should've said 3 more months. It's moving at a snail's pace and has become the subject of quite a few jokes among fishermen and folks who live around the lagoon. The incompetence is mind-numbing. Almost as bad as the last time it was dredged around 9 years ago.
I was reminded today of one of the reasons why I still feel like the luckiest Gringo in Mexico when our daughter Valeria made us a special lunch. She knocked it out of the ballpark with a chicken in a creamy lemon sauce dish very similar to one that used to be my specialty at a French restaurant where I worked on Sanibel Island. Blew my mind! There's nothing better than a loving family!
Since Huracán Otis they haven't been charging to use the Autopista del Sol between Cuernavaca and Acapulco, but today they started charging again. Bummer.
Location is everything, and located front and center on El Palmar Beach in Ixtapa with all the amenities of a resort hotel you'll find Tesoro Ixtapa Condos. 1- and 2BR furnished vacation rental condos with use of pool, restaurants and beach services. One on the 2nd floor, the other on the 6th. Spectacular views!

Do you know where the dredged sludge from Las Salinas is being disposed? Hope it isn’t causing problems elsewhere.

It's supposed to end up in the municipal landfill behind Ixtapa, but for now it's sitting in an open-air holding pen next to the lagoon. They're using a small dredge that appears inadequate for the job.
