Hola
Anyone else out there wondering why Robs Zihua message board has turned into a forum for ranting USA political idiots? I must admit it is entertaining and has brought me a lot of laughs at these bozos posts. But what happened to Zihua concerns? I know that what the orange turd does may affect what happens in Zihua, but please find some other venue to vent these idiotic ramblings. By the way, what's happening to abate all the pollution going into the bay? Or is this the wrong place to ask?

Canada, Mexico, and the United States are dependent upon one another far more than is often imagined by citizens of these three countries. Did you now that Mexico is now the largest trading partner with the United States? These conversations are important and personally, I am very grateful for this forum. One can always simply ignore any threads that are not relevant to you or you are not interested in. In your case, there is nothing stopping you from starting a thread about your concern about the environmental status of the bay.

Thanks for your honest reply. It is now clear to me that this forum is not for me. I am more concerned with what is happening in Zihua than what is happening in the f*cking USA, which you seem to be obsessed with. You have made your position very clear. Remember not everyone in Zihua is from the USA and don't give flying f about your biased views.

I assure you, Sir, that if a Putin-style authoritarian dictatorship with no regard for the rule of law or human life emerges in the f*cking USA, it will be of great concern to everyone living in the Western Hemisphere, including those living in our beloved Zihuatanejo.

Over 55,000 posts here and a few political posts turn you off?
What pollution going into the bay are you referring to? It's rainy season, and everywhere in the world the rain carries trash and runoff into the waterways, lakes, rivers, streams and oceans. Other than that Zihuatanejo is one of the very few communities along the entire Costa Grande that has functioning wastewater treatment plants.

I'm a faithful reader and poster, and I do what was suggested. If the thread turns into political stuff I don't want to read, I DON'T READ IT.
Thanks Rob for everything.

Rob, is there no non-governmental entity that reports the water quality in Zihua?

Nothing reliable or trustworthy. The federal and local governments emit single reports timed to coincide with peak vacation periods. There is no regular testing that is made public, though the municipal government claims it tests the beach waters regularly. Even when the water is obviously unsafe for swimming such as right after a big rain, no warnings are issues by the local government and no signs are placed at the beaches. So while the local government may be monitoring the water, since they keep the info to themselves and post no warnings, I'd have to say their efforts are wasted if not actually useless to the public.

We actually see the samples being collected in front of Paty's very early in the morning 4 or 5 times a year. See the results? Nope.

Robs message board - Any Municipal Water Authority Experts?
Does anyone know what kind of expertise and expenses are needed for the proper reporting of the quality and safety of a body of water such as Bahia Zihuatanejo?

Rather than foaming at the mouth, how about some introspection? How did we get here with such a poor democratic candidate? Jim Clyburn from South Carolina gave Joe the push he needed to get the nomination. The quid pro quo was how we got VP Kamala. We were told a few months ago Joe was sharp as a tack and we shouldn't believe our lying eyes. That all fell apart in the debate and the big donor money dried up. Then, we essentially had a selection rather than a primary election courtesy of the party bosses.
Now we have someone not very intelligent or sure of herself. She went to a law school outside of the top 50 where 85% of her classmates passed the bar. She failed and had to take it again. Compare that to the Clintons (Yale Law) or Obama, first black editor of the Harvard Law Review and near the top of his class.
I think the friendly interviews with softball questions have backfired, because she performed terribly. On The View, Harris-supporting host Sunny Hostin asked: “Would you have done anything differently than President Biden during the past four years?” She veered off the rails: “There is not a thing that comes to mind,” Harris responded. “Not a thing.” What a gift to Trump and 60 Minutes equally so. They just play those sound bites on a loop in swing states. The latest proposal she mentioned is to have a bipartisan commission to make policy. We've already seen the blue ribbon commission movie before and know that nothing gets done. This is not a leader, which is why the polls are so close.
It looks like the Senate will flip to the republicans. This was always going to be a tough cycle for democrats since they have ten more seats up for reelection. The big challenges with lots of out of state money to Ted Cruz and Rick Scott in Texas and Florida don't look like they will provide any traction. Manchin (D) in West Virginia is retiring and Jim Justice is way ahead. In Montana John Tester (D) is down about 8 points.

It wouldn't take much and be very costly at all. I'm sure there is a lab in Zihua that does this regularly!

As a Montanan, I support John Tester. I don't expect perfection from politicians, but Tester is a decent guy trying to do his job, while his Republican opponent is a lying POS.

“As of 2022, the latest data available, here's a breakdown of the trade between the US and its two largest trading partners:
Canada
Total trade: $736.8 billion
US exports to Canada: $323.8 billion
US imports from Canada: $413 billion
Mexico
Total trade: $685.1 billion
US exports to Mexico: $362 billion
US imports from Mexico: $323.1 billion
As of October 2024, there is no comprehensive trade data available for 2023. The collection and release of trade data typically takes some time after the end of the year.
However, it's likely that preliminary figures or estimates for 2023 trade will become available in the near future. You can check the websites of the U.S. Trade Representative and the U.S. Census Bureau for updates.”

Hmmm. Interesting. USAFacts.org is reporting that Mexico is now the largest trading partner. Let's see what others are saying ... some sources are citing 2022 data and saying the Canada was still the largest trading partner with the United States while others are stating that Mexico is now the largest. Here is a quick Google search.
In any case, the important point to stress that we three countries are strategically interdependent upon one another. As an exercise for our finance and investment students, I relate that as I was on a two-week trip through Mexico, I wrote down every United States brand that I saw along the way. I didn't go up and down the aisles of a grocery store or big box store. If I saw a brand name on the side of a store or advertised or used by a local, I wrote down that brand name. (This excludes all the t-shirts and other paraphernalia with Disney or Star Wars characters or U.S. sports teams or music celebrities, etc.) I crossed the border in Tijuana on foot, took the bus to the airport, flew to Mazatlan for three days, took the bus to Puerto Vallarta for three days, bus to Guadalajara for two days, bus to Morelia for two days, and the bus to Mexico City to meet up with some friends. We took a two-day trip to Cuernacaca and then back to Mexico City where I flew back to Tijuana and rode the bus to the border. I then ask the students to guess how many United States brands I saw. The guesses start around 20 or 30 and then usually go up to 80 or 100. The correct answer was 313.
We in the Western Hemisphere must work toward a political and trade agreement along the lines of the European Union. Yes, I know it will take decades but it is imperative. If not, we will simply be washed away by Asia's growing economic might.
Okay, Agent Orange nativists, it's your turn to howl.

EXCERPT from post by victorio
Hola
"But what happened to Zihua concerns?"
Yes we know that what happens in the USA and other places,
may affect what happens in "Zihua", as others have noted.
And yes, we know that a post can be skipped if it isn't of your interest.Nevertheless I myself would prefer that those topics would be discussed
on a separte political type Forum.I would prefer as I think victorio does,
that the Z Board would be a real "This Town" Forum.
Maybe as it may have been initially?
Yes, it is somewhat of a Purist point-of-view.
In general: Leave "politics" out,
unless they're here locally, & affect life in Zihuatanejo. And people can "shop elsewhere" for other topics that interest them,
whether or not for whatever reason,
they have some tie with Zihuatanejo.
I've been around long enough to recall when there were two Zihua-centric "message boards", and "politics" - local, state, national and international - has always been an entertaining and instructive part of the regular fare. Discussion of local Zihua/Guerrero/Mexico politics.....to me, anyway....is of as much interest as the weather, local food, customs, etc. Understandably, the 1 or 2 week folks may want to leave their politics at home. I prefer to know what's happening, no matter where I am.
The solution shouldn't be censorship. If folks don't like particular threads, move on to the ones you like.
