Recycling - Cardboard, Glass, etc.

One of the big adjustments I regretfully make when I get to the area is the absence of recycling. It bothers me greatly to put paper, cardboard, glass, and plastic into the grato go to a “landfill”.

(Our euphemisms contribute to our destruction of our environment. The horribly destructive gas methane has the pleasant sounding name “natural gas”. It’s “natural”, so it must be healthy, right? Mountains of rotting food products leaching petrochemicals and producing microplastics are “landfill”. But I digress.)

Now that I have a camioneta, I’m hoping I can take some things to recycling. I have about two years’ worth of cardboard saved up and several months worth of glass containers. Can I recycle these anywhere?

Is there a place to take yard waste for composting?

There is a recycling drop off place a few blocks up from Plaza Kioto, going towards Avenido Morelos. It is just behind DIF (#15 Aguacate) in Centro. It is a very clean, organized place. They take cardboard, glass. hard plastic, tin cans, aluminum etc.

We go there regularly, and they are quite helpful. We try to avoid Friday's because it appears that that is a day when they all eat and share food.

We finally broke down and bought an above ground composter for our yard and kitchen waste. Because of our temps, the compost goes fast. It is a great addition to our plants and pots.

I think I have found it on Google Earth. Aside from avoiding Fridays, is there any indication of time of day when they are open? I would hate to drive all the way from Troncones to find it closed.

We have always tried to go between 9 and 2, kind of the go to hours here.
