A semblance of normalcy returned to Zihuatanejo this Monday as students returned to school after a week of no classes for many. Sales are beginning to pick up in some of the local shops and restaurants with the arrival of vacationers from the States and Canada breathing life back into the community. Folks at Las Gatas have been complaining that too many of the Mexican day trippers aren't spending money there.

A zone of tropical disturbance in the Pacific is moving eastward towards our coast, but it isn't expected to reach us. We'll be lucky to see any rain at all this week. Today there were a few thunderheads visible on the horizon early this morning, but Zihuatanejo saw nothing but sunny blue skies all day.

The Concurso de Catrinas was a huge success Sunday night at the Cancha Municipal. Everyone enjoyed the wonderful spectacle until the fireworks at the end. A shame the city government doesn't show any respect for the homeless and sick animals under the care of the Sociedad Protectora de Animales de Zihuatanejo (SPAZ) sheltered at Casa Marina next to the Cancha Municipal. Maybe it was silly to hope for a more considerate and caring government under our first woman mayor.

Mexico, like most of the free world, is hoping that the women voters of the USA will preserve freedom and decency and prevent a fascist authoritarian government from taking over. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
