Scorpion Hit
We are just beginning our 8th year here full time on a large property that is heavily landscaped. We decided not to spray for many reasons, especially ourselves and our three dogs.
We have now only seen 4 scorpions, and today when I grabbed a towel on the back of a chair on the cement pool deck, a yellow one got me on the back of my hand.
WOW!!!!! I had read that they hurt, but they really do and it goes on forever. Our neighbor got hit in bed about 10 days ago so we had just read about what to do.
We killed the little bugger, put him in a bag and dashed off to Hospital Especialidades. Four nurses checked my vitals, the doctor administered the anti venom. Fortunately for me as allergic as I am to wasps, nothing to scorpions. After 1.5 hours of observations and IV, I was set free with just a very painful, swollen hand.
Cash or plastic, plastic costs more. Didn't want paperwork, but they insisted. The bill looked like one from the US, with codes and everything itemized.
3500 pesos. What a deal!!!! If/when it happens again, since I am not allergic, we'll just go to a doctor at a pharmacy for the shot. We thought about keeping a box of the anti venom here, but it needs to be administered intravenously, so we will have it done.
So, hope this helps educate others. Afterwards, off to lunch at The Generals!
The pain will go away and you'll lose sensation in the bitten area for several weeks. Try not to scratch it when it starts drying out and sloughing off skin. I've been bitten a few times. It never occurred to me to even see a doctor. Probably a good idea for folks with allergies and such. Make sure you get that handsome loving man of yours to kiss your boo boo.
