A few years ago we ate at the new Kau Kan in Ixtapa. The one with the glass bridge & elevator, not far from the Pacifica. Coming back to Ixtapa in a few weeks. Does anyone know if this Kau Kan is still open along with the quality of the food and menu? Back then there were pro and con comments on both the food and service.
Checked on the internet & can only find info on the Kau Kan in Zihautenejo.
Thanks

Kau Kan is no longer in Ixtapa - that closed a few years ago. It has moved to the gated community at Punto Garrobos.

Thanks. Any idea what they did with the former Kau Kan? Sure seems like a large investment with the glass bridge, elevator, kitchen, location, etc. to just close down. Any chance there's a new restuarant there?
Truthfully the few times we were there were for the ambiance. Was not impressed with the food, service, menu selections or price.

We went to the new Kau Kan this week. Underwhelming.
it is inside a gated community, so not able to get there by car, a golf cart comes to pick you up.
We wanted tos ee the sunset and specified that when making the reservation, and to our surprise, there is no sunset to be seen there.
The food is not what it used to be, unfortunately. Nothing that we ordered was even worth a mention. And two in our party had stomach issues afterward.
Drinks were not good either - there are many ways to not do a great margarita, and service was slow.
Sadly, we won't be going back again.
The previous site in Ixtapa was beautiful, and it is, from my understanding, the restaurant for that community. Not sure if it is open to the public or not.
What is called "Kau Kan" the restaurant (from what was explained to me) was a restaurant in the community until it was finished (or fully sold). So it was in the Ambar development in Ixtapa, then the facility was returned to the development as their restaurant/beach club and it moved to the Punta Garrobo development as it's defacto restaurant. Not sure if this is true but it seems like it for the last 4 years or so.
I was at the Ixtapa version (with the bridge and elevator) and the food, view and service were pretty good. I have also been to the current Kau Kan location in Punta Garrobo 4-5 times as we have stayed in Punta Garrobo condos a few times now and there is nothing else that is in that community. The menu and service were average and the view is of the bay and beautiful at night, not really any sunset though. It was fine for dinner and we did have a good time there and overall it was less expensive than a Tentaciones or Amuleto in comparison. Similar to a El Suspiro vibe (and around the same price) I found.
So, yes, it is no longer in Ixtapa but is open in Zihua.
