Clouds moved in today, and by late afternoon it was raining lightly in downtown Zihuatanejo, lasting for a couple of hours or so. The scent of petrichor is one of my favorites, and it made my siesta even more enjoyable. The rain was so light that tourists continued enjoying the downtown beach, many just floating in the practically glass-smooth water, contentment written all over their faces.

Rain is predicted to continue off and on for the weekend and possibly into next week. The ocean temp continues warm at around 28°C in the bay. According to Las Cabañuelas, today's rain could bode well for next October.

I should mention that there have been several holdups and burglaries in downtown Zihuatanejo, including purse-snatching and at least one attempted car theft, in the past couple of weeks. Please be aware of your surroundings and stay around other people.

The local public transportation authority assures us there are no plans to increase the taxi and bus rates this year. In other words, public taxis should be respecting the authorized local taxi rates listed here on my website.

Don't miss the Eco-Tianguis "Sanka" across the street from the Museo Arqueológico de la Costa Grande from 9 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. this Saturday morning. And in La Ropa next to Casa Tucanes is "Las Iguanas Bazar" every Saturday and Sunday from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. with local artisans and merchants and lots of sustainable products.

[image]Located near a popular surfing spot at Playa Manzanillo in Troncones, Casa Maya features four one-bedroom bungalow suites with A/C, each one a work of art using handcrafted local designs and materials. They share a large palapa that functions as a living area with a bar and kitchen in front of a pool overlooking the beach. The perfect lodging for a perfect vacation.

This incredible, wonderful rain is going to send lots of "stuff" down the canals and streets into the bay.

In the summer, when it rains regularly, we give it three days after a good hard rain.

This is a good HARD rain, we'll give it 4 to 5 days.

Please be aware of natural water qualities.

We are SO lucky to be getting this rain!!!!

We love your daily posts, Rob, and we’re so happy to be back in Zihua again:crocodile: You’re an incredibly valuable asset to this community, and no-one else writes about Zihua with such love and affection, while also being willing to share the problems and challenges facing the Ciudad de Todos as well! Keep up the great work, keep loving your love story as much we love ours, and we’re looking forward to your future writings while we’re here and beyond:mermaid: Thanks for everything, and in particular the use of petrichor, which is a new word for us; and we’re glad it’s raining for a variety of reasons, specifically because we know how much you love a good rain, and how much this will help with the water shortage and keeping the beautiful hills green… All the best!

Tourists were in the ocean before sunrise today. I didn't see the point in shouting anything to them. Besides, who am I to tell them anything? I grew up my first dozen years swimming in the Ohio River. Amazingly the first time I was ever aware of getting ill from swimming in dirty water was when I almost lost my hearing from ear infections I got swimming in Christiansted Harbor, in St. Croix, USVI.
