Are any of the RSV vaccines available in Zihuatanejo? Does anyone know the cost?
A friend is in his 70s and is immunocompromised. He has been quoted C$300 for the vaccination where he lives. He has had very good experience with dental care in Zihuatanejo and hopes he might be able to have a similarly positive experience being vaccinated against RSV in November 2025.

I’m surprised that the vaccine is charged for in the Canadian system. Although it’s not covered by Medicare, my wife and I only paid around $150 last year. That said, if he is immunocompromised, it would be better if he got it now, not later.

The “Canadian” system is actually a multiplicity of provincial and territorial systems. The canadian constitution delineates federal and provincial authority. (For example, unlike the US where there are federal crimes and state crimes, there is only one criminal code in Canada. Civil law varies across jurisdictions.)
I understand that in some provinces RSV vaccinations are 100% covered for designated groups such as pregnant women, infants, over 75 years, etc. My friend will be covered in a few years, but he’s thinking he might want to get a head start on protection.

It would be a very good idea to be immunized. I’m surprised that the cost up,there is more than we paid. It’s quite unusual.

Unusual, but not unique. In most, if not all provinces, the cost of Shingrix, the shingles vaccine, is also not covered. Those shots (one and a booster) run around $250 each, Canadian. Those of us with a private medical plan can usually claim 80% of that. Governments will likely wait until the hospitals are crammed-to-overflowing with RSV and shingles patients before they figure that it's cost-effective to vaccinate everyone who wants it.

When we got Shingrex, we were covered by wife’s insurance and it was free. Her prior insurance would have covered the RSV too.
