Hermosura Cultural PreZIHosa
Our cool refreshing mornings continue. This Friday we enjoyed another beautiful cloudless morning, and the brilliant but brief orange ribbon of sun-glow across the dawn's eastern horizon remains one of the treasures of the Costa Grande for those who are up early enough to appreciate it. And once again, there were visitors swimming well before sunrise.
Oddly, merchants say there were hardly any sales this Friday after a day of decent sales Thursday. There is a local perception that foreigners don't like to come to town when there are lots of Mexican tourists around, a myth as far as I can tell, but the slow sales day seemed to reinforce it.
My worries yesterday about the Fandango Costeño cultural event being held in Plaza del Artista were totally unfounded, it turned out. And I'm ecstatic to have been wrong. Our friends the Danzón dancers were the first to participate, and they were decked out in beautifully embroidered traditional regional clothing. The stage was set up in the worst location, and sideways to the seating which was set up to both sides of the dance stage instead of in front of it, so it prevented folks from having a good view and essentially blocked being able to walk through the plaza as we are normally able to do during previous events of this type. I'm not sure why the organizers set it up so poorly, but the music and the dancers were fantastic and I don't think anyone minded! My wife and I have the best seats in the house on our azotea! ¡Uy uy uy!
Lupita and I ran into longtime Message Board regular Altona Stu at the pier this evening as he was returning from a whale watching charter. He said they saw several and took lots of photos. I hope he can figure out how to post some photos here. It was wonderful to run into him and his pretty wife.
The sky looked like it wanted to rain this Friday evening. Clouds showed up out of nowhere, and apparently there's a chance of rain predicted for tonight and early tomorrow. Frankly, I'd love it!
Don't forget to visit the Eco-Tianguis "Sanka" across the street from the Museo Arqueológico de la Costa Grande this Saturday morning from 9 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. And in La Ropa next to Casa Tucanes is "Las Iguanas Bazar" every Saturday and Sunday from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. with local artisans and merchants and lots of sustainable products. Solidly good vibes at both weekly events!
