How often did they clean? I have read that MXN$100 to MXN$200 per cleaning is not inappropriate. But that was for a studio / small one bedroom apartment/condo. I usually tip more.

Last season we had a two bedroom two bathroom place. We paid 300 pesos every two weeks. She worked for four hours and did the works. She climbed up ladder to clean our whirly-bird fans, mopped, etc. Money well spent.

Sometimes we rent a 2 bedroom 2 bath on La Ropa. The instructions from the owner is the normal tip for the maid is $500 - $700 per week. She does 2 light cleanings per week plus the final cleaning. Tipping is truly a personal choice but if it was me, I would leave $1,000 unless she came by multiple times.

How much was the villa rental? $5,000 USD per week? Would 5% of the cost of the villa rental be reasonable for gratuities for the staff?
