These nipper mornings are quite enjoyable, especially for walking the dog and getting one's morning exercise. This morning's sunrise was a little cloudy to the east, so the coolness lasted a little longer this morning. Pelicans and frigate birds were going after schools of fish in front of Playa Principal, while shore fishermen were tossing out their lures and baited hooks hoping to get lucky. A group of people were practicing yoga by the canal in front of the museum.

I've seen several good-sized huachinango for sale in the fishermen's area of Playa Principal these past few days. They are one of our more flavorful local fish and thus one of the most popular.

We were extremely disappointed with the gardeners working for the municipal government today. For no reason whatsoever, they cut down a 40+ year-old areca palm in Plaza del Artista, ironically while sprucing up for an ecological event in the evening. Killing trees comes way too easy for our current municipal government. Usually they cut them to pour cement from the mayor's husband's company, but there was no reason at all to cut this tree. It disturbed no one. Blocked nothing. Wasn't unsightly. Wasn't dying. By the time I responded to the sound of machete chopping wood and questioned them, the damage was done. The gardener simply looked up at me and said "no sirve". I pressed him on it, but he chose to play simple-minded. I hope the mayor sees fit to replace the tree her employee stupidly and senselessly cut down. A shame that we literally have to fight for every single tree against an indifferent and inconsistent government.

The ecological event this evening in Plaza del Artista was interesting. They were trying to raise awareness for our wetlands. It's a start, and I was glad to see my friends Pablo and Laurel from El Refugio de Potosí. A wonderful local endeavor to educate the public about and to preserve local wildlife.

Some years ago, I was having a dead tree cut down in the front yard of Casa Amarilla. Several locals informed me that this was illegal. When I pointed out that the tree was dead and that I planned to replace it, they repeated that what we were doing was illegal.

They were just being Karens. There's nothing wrong with taking down a dead tree if it's obviously dead. But the ayuntamiento does this all the time with live and healthy trees, and it is illegal to do so in a place like Plaza Kioto. But they do so all the time and ALWAYS give stupid answers.

Being one who is married to a lovely wife named Karen, it would be nice to see people go back to using the words we were taught in school to label another person’s actions. My wife gets sick of hearing this knowing what a kind, sweet and loving person she is, which I totally agree with. What’s wrong with nosy? On topic though I agree on there being no need to cut down trees that are healthy, they offer more benefits than most people realize.
