Troncones trail - pretty good trail
We took our scooter to Troncones today from Ixtapa, scooters really don't like those speed bumps all that much
rough ride it was but we made it.
Was originally looking for Cueva la Majahua (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OMklZTDWsg https://www.alltrails.com/es-mx/explore/trail/mexico/guerrero/cueva-la-majahua--2?mobileMap=false&initFlyover=true&flyoverReturnToTrail= ) but they seem to have that pretty locked up. Maybe there is a another way in?
So we took https://www.alltrails.com/es-mx/ruta/mexico/guerrero/la-majajua-troncones instead. Has a great lookout and lots of up & down. Its good work out that's for sure. But, the beaches at La Majahua are just wonderful. The food a bit pricey though but good. Dogs allowed on the beach which is a bonus. We didn't bring our dog.
Anyone looking for a good hike, its a decent trail for a long day of hiking. I think it goes on for around 35km with 980m of elevation... We only did around 12km of it though as it was getting late in the day and we burned through all our water...
if anyone has any similar hikes or mountain bike rides feel free to post here if you wish...
we took our scooter looking for Zona Arqueológica Soledad de Maciel-Xihuacan but somehow took the wrong turn into Petatlán (cool little town) and ended up by Playa Valentin lagoona. A great place to check out as well.
El Posquelite - good short trail
Not much aqua this time of year down the cascade but still amazing to see the large rocks and tiny little waterfall trickle this time of year. The locals said come back during rainy season its supposed to be amazing in there with the water flowing.
Kind of reminded me of the trails in PVR at Los Veranos, but smaller for sure.

be sure to support the local economy there while there...
Playa La Majahua trails and such...
Playa La Majahua has a whole wack of trails, we just went to the La Cueva del Tigre
https://zihuatravels.com/the-best-hike-in-zihua-a-natural-pool-secluded-beach-and-a-cave/ https://www.facebook.com/blogzanca/videos/explorando-la-cueva-del-tigre-playa-la-majahua-ixtapa-zihuatanejo-%EF%B8%8Fvisitar-la-cu/206226024887569/
which was a good little hike up and up and up. The trail goes down, there were bees down that way so we went up. The trail continues on and on it seems but we found the cave. Interesting it was. Recommended for sure.
We also went to La Poza which was a bit of a challenge to find. Its just a short little hike to the lava rocks. I wouldn't be bringing small children there as the waves can get pretty wild and I think people have actually died there. So proceed as you may...
The waves in that area can get pretty wick. But, the trails around there are pretty good for hiking.
Yesterday we went to https://lugares.inah.gob.mx/es/museos-inah/museo/443-museo-de-sitio-de-la-zona-arqueol%C3%B3gica-de-soledad-de-maciel-xihuacan.html
near Zona Arqueológica Soledad de Maciel-Xihuacan
Well worth a visit for sure. Such vast history. I wasn't aware of that at all, yet I have been through Guatemala (volunteered for construcasa.org) lots of amazing ruins and history plus amazing architecture. And, volcanos we built some homes near Fuego but then it blew up a few months later https://www.gulf-times.com/story/595548/guatemala-volcano-death-toll-tops-100 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc8Iq8LuNt4
Trying to book a visit to https://www.elrefugiodepotosi.org/visit.html, but it seems as though yah need a group of 6 for most tours.
Barra de Potosí lagoona trail to lookout and Zeus
after an hour half tour of the refuge https://www.elrefugiodepotosi.org/ (be sure to book a tour a day or so/more in advance cost is around 150peso if you find a group of 6).
We tried looking for the trail to the lookout at the top of the hill
https://es.wikiloc.com/rutas-senderismo/potosi-96454120
But, the locals said it was covered over, most of the trail was. You need to walk along the rocky beach until you find the trail.
We went to Zeus, which involved following the dirt road behind the restaurant once you walk through that lagoon (its about hip deep water and the current can be fast in spots, but families were crossing over). Zeus is this endless beach with massive waves. Impressive it is. Watch the farm dogs, they bark at first then the calm down and follow yah to the beach. The mosquitos weren't too bad.
Interesting little town with lots of restaurants, some local art work, etc... worth a visit. We went behind the airport to get there on a scooter. Paved road not too may speed humps.
Barra de Potosí lagoona trail to lookout and Zeus
Is Zeus on the ocean side of the big hill opposite Barra? Is it an island? roughly how many people live there?
Barra de Potosí lagoona trail to lookout and Zeus
Zeus is on the other side of the hill. Need to cross the lagoon (hip deep approx, the locals cross with all their stuff plus their kids etc..) We asked the restaurant owner if we could use the road, had a few coconuts with them. The dirt road is flat to the other side. I haven't a clue who lives on that side but there is a small pig farm with farm dogs that come out barking. So know how to respond to that (ie we had treats and didn't over react etc.. ) The waves are wicked on that side as well. If yah fall in I'm not sure if you'll come back up.. as they trash against the sand shoreline.
Mirador de Montaña Cicloplista
Great biking along the ciclopista https://www.alltrails.com/es-mx/ruta/mexico/guerrero/mirador-ixtapa from ixtapa to Zihua. Just off the route as you head towards Playa Linda is a dirt trail that goes up and up to a lookout. Amazing views at the top. The locals do it in their flip flops and seen people do it bare feet - tough they are. Not fore me thanks, we wore shoes.
Good climb though. We did it a few weeks back.

time to explore, do, and enjoy the great views.. enjoy the great weather.
