Noche de Mucha DiverZIHón
Last night's Carnaval parade was over an hour late getting started. No idea why. Some people had already been waiting for over an hour along the parade route. Much of what Lupita and I saw was enjoyable and delightful. Some of the floats were quite elaborate. Our favorite was the dragon, but we missed Quetzalcoatl. Like a lot of other people, we called it quits and missed the last 2 hours or so of the parade because it simply went on too long and too late. We all cheered on our mayor Liz Tapia while she danced in front of us with a spectator. I don't know how she manages to find all the energy, but she was also one of the best parts of the parade.
What a difference this Monday has been from the day before. Even though it's an official holiday, either most folks were hungover or they used Monday to travel back home. Not many folks were out on the beach today, and there weren't many people shopping or dining in restaurants today either. The streets and the waterfront were mostly quiet today and this evening. Now comes the long wait for Semana Santa before we see any real tourism again.
It almost looked like it was going to rain Sunday night when some kind of a weather front passed by overhead, though it didn't show up on any weather map.
The local ocean water temperature has dropped back down to around 27°C, which feels cold to locals, though I know many of you from up north laugh at us for that.
We're starting to see some fires in the region, so smoky weather could affect us soon.
Villas Los Arcos at Playa La Ropa is a wonderful lodging I truly enjoy being able to recommend. As if La Ropa isn't beautiful enough, this exquisitely designed and decorated lodging is a place one feels instantly at home in. I wish visitors would simply spend more time in lodgings like this instead of cutting down more of our trees and clearing more land to build more vacation and retirement homes.
