A sincere and heartfelt thank you to Craig & Tina for inviting us to enjoy dinner with them and Ramón Olea's family Tuesday night at La Porteña restaurant. It was a memorable experience. Joaquín and his crew took excellent care of our large group. Lupita and I ordered lasagna that was perfectly prepared and too delicious for words. The 5 different kinds of pizza were also extremely delicious according to everyone present. The mezcal nightcap also hit the spot and did the trick.
Some regular readers of the Message Board alerted Lupita and me this evening that the Bomberos had cruelly removed a baby crocodile this Wednesday from the mouth of La Boquita canal where the poor baby made the mistake of sunning itself and being seen by stupid people who called and reported it to Protección Civil who came and removed it. I suspect they placed it with other crocs either at Playa Linda or Playa Larga where the small croc will quickly get eaten by the larger ones, which is the reason they instinctively search for places of refuge away from other crocs such as La Boquita canal where historically small crocs have always found safe refuge and lived unbothered, not ever bothering anyone else, until the local so-called authorities started a crocodile hysteria a couple of years ago with their lie about a crocodile being the culprit of a fatal shark attack at Playa Quieta instead of the shark that was the actual culprit. Their stubborn insistence on perpetuating the lie continues to get crocodiles killed and traumatized. Even if the baby croc that was removed survives, it will have been traumatized by the experience and taught that humans are a threat, making it more dangerous to humans than it otherwise would've been if left alone. It infuriates me that local so-called authorities continue with this utter stupidity. PLEASE don't call anyone to report a crocodile if you see one! Please leave them be.
Downtown was mostly empty this evening, hardly anyone was out at the restaurants or strolling about. Our tourist season continues winding down. After Semana Santa the hotels and restaurants will start letting go of workers until the summer vacation season begins in mid July. But locals are already tightening their belts in anticipation of the off season.
Don't forget that Thursday is jueves pozolero, and we have many delicious pozolerías in our neck of the woods, my favorite being El Profe in Coacoyul. See my Restaurants page for local pozolerías and their locations.
