Before I even opened my eyes this Friday morning I heard the sound of the waves and of birds singing including a chachalaca. It was another cool morning (for us), good for snuggling and savoring the coolest part of the day while it lasted. What a pleasure to wake up each day in this marvelous place beside the love of my life! I feel like I must be the luckiest Gringo in Mexico.
Sales continue slowing down for shopkeepers and restaurants in Zihuatanejo as visitors from abroad return home. Since today was the Día Natalicio del Benemérito Benito Juárez, the reason for which las Monday was an official holiday, a few tourists arrived early, mostly by bus, and were milling about on the waterfront this morning. Some went to the beachfront restaurants here, others to Playa Las Gatas. I imagine Playa Linda and Isla Ixtapa were also a little busier today than they'd been during the week. But the downturn in tourism is noticeable, and so the belt-tightening begins. This is a period when many businesses close instead of continuing to pay rents and employees. It's going to be a long wait until our visitors from abroad return, and most locals are expecting even fewer Gringos next season than we had this season. Hopefully we'll get even more Canadians.
The clear water continues, and the waves in the bay are quite small and fun to play in for many of our beachgoers. In Troncones and Saladita along the open ocean the waves have been reaching a meter and a half, good for surfers. Depending on location, the water continues cooling down, registering 26.4°C at the pier earlier this morning. Brrrrr!
A world apart from most of Ixtapa, Ixtapa Iguana Condo 270 offers a comfortable and lovely two-bedroom low-rise condominium overlooking a pool right on El Palmar Beach in Ixtapa, available by week or month. Sleeps up to six and features a full kitchen, terrace, air conditioning, and TV.

Went swimming in La Madera Friday afternoon - water did feel cooler when you first put your toes in, but is really nice while swimming. Not the summer bathwater, but very nice. Saw rays jumping out of the water between me and the shore, and on the other side of me in the bay. SO cool! Also saw three or four boats passing as they toured the bay - nice.
