I recently hired Los Torcazos for my 80th birthday celebration here in Zihua. And it was a wonderful, stirring experience, not just for all my familiares, but especially for me.
There's an appreciation of the event - and of mariachi music - new on my travel blog, El Viajero Contento. Some of you might appreciate it.

Los Torcazos are the best, especially Francisco! Wish I could've helped you to celebrate, but my invitation must've gotten lost in the mail. 
So glad you got to experience that very Mexican emotion. You deserve it. There's nothing else quite like it. ¡Ajúaaaaa!

Gracias! In all our trips down, and all the restaurants we’ve tried, still haven’t made it to this one. Reviews look great, so we’ll definitely give it a try next time.

The reviews are just another tool. However, I do agree with you. My favorite way to find new restaurants is to, as you say, wander around and look for places with many locals. Like reviews, it is not a guarantee, but it is so much fun when you stumble upon a real gem. Plus, an added bonus is sometimes you strike up a conversation or two and get to practice Spanish.
