Un Día No Tan PaZIHfico
Big scare late Thursday night as gunfire and a grenade explosion scared the bejeezus out of folks near Plaza Kioto while rival criminals had at each other. There allegedly was one death and 3 detentions, but since the government is never forthcoming on these matters, we're likely never to know what actually went down. I only know that I'm watching another prophecy of mine fulfill itself as our so-called authorities repeat here in Zihuatanejo all the same mistakes that made other unscrupulous politicians rich and powerful in Acapulco.
As if that wasn't bad enough, a drowned woman was found floating this morning near Puerto Mío. Apparently she wasn't even reported missing, which seems quite strange.
When I went to take my dog for a walk this morning along the canal, I waved at dozens of bus tourists arriving with all their coolers and luggage, apparently on their way to the pier to get to Las Gatas as is habitual for such visitors. However, upon returning from La Madera, I tried to walk from the museum to Plaza del Artista, as I often do when finishing my walk, but I was told the Paseo del Pescador was "closed". Closed? In the so-called "Ciudad de Todos"? The walkway is now privatized? How could that be? The damn thing is as wide as a boulevard since the last so-called "remodelación", and there's plenty of room for a running event as well as allowing the daily pedestrians and visitors to walk along the sides as has occurred during previous running events, allowing for an audience to cheer the runners on. Never has the city closed the walkway before, something that was more than mildly annoying for me. I imagine it was a bigger disappointment for the dozens of tourists expecting to walk along the waterfront instead of the tiny sidewalk along Juan N. Álvarez street to reach the pier. I sure hope the so-called authorities of the "Ciudad de Todos" don't make this a regular occurrence. Their poor judgment once again on display. Okay, rant over.
The waves from the mar de fondo event appear to have died back down, but they got large last night and this morning and washed halfway up the unpaved part of the beach.
This should be a busy weekend for us as the Semana Santa / Semana de Pascua vacation period comes to an end, and we get one last big surge of visitors. A good time to stay off the roads.
Truly one of the loveliest vacation lodgings at La Ropa and one of my favorite properties to promote is Villa Zanzibar, a charming 3-bedroom private villa tucked away in the old original La Ropa community at the southern end of the beach a short easy walk up from the waterfront. Located in one of the most peaceful areas of our community, this is a place to feel relaxed and at home.
