¡La Primera PreZIHpitación!
Friday night it seemed like there were more visitors in Zihuatanejo than anytime during Semana Santa. The downtown walkway was packed, the pier was packed, La Cancha was packed, and families continued arriving as we wiggled and danced through the crowds to get back home.
It got cool enough to sleep under a sheet again Friday night, but this little pleasure will be over soon as the humidity and temperature creeps up and the wonderful breezes we've been enjoying die down.
Well, we might have gotten our first rain this Saturday evening in Zihuatanejo, though as best as I can make out it was very isolated and very little, so I'm not sure if it actually qualifies as a "first rain". We only felt an extremely light drizzle at our downtown home, not even enough to wet the ground. I sensed it would come early this year, but this is certainly a lot sooner than I expected. I can't recall the last time it rained this early in May. Hopefully there will be more soon, but nothing torrential.
The waterfront and pier were jam packed again this evening, and the music was eardrum-shattering loud. I felt bad for the little kids who were there. Not sure why the city thinks the music needs to be so loud as to be heard around the bay while the actual area for the audience was only the width of the walkway between the Capitanía and the beach. A very small area packed with people and with music so loud it was impossible to communicate even shouting.
My friend Benny Guzmán looks to have the 1st place for pez vela locked up with a 47.950 kg catch! Let's see if Sunday brings any new surprises.

Después de una larga noche trabajando, unos pescadores venden sus últimos pescados durante el amanecer en Playa Principal de Zihuatanejo.

¡La Primera PreZIHpitación!
It spittled tiny specks of rain for about 10 minutes in Ixtapa around 5 pm. There was also a large fire at the same time in the vicinity of the waste-water plant on Calle Viveros.
No bomberos responded to the blaze.

The news outlets are saying they did, though I also saw a video of it burning for a while with no firefighters around. Don't they have a fire station in Ixtapa out by the highway? They should've been there in an instant.

Good question.

The fire was actually in the CFE electrical substation which is located next to the wastewater treatment plant. I have heard no news regarding the cause of the fire.
