Any news on placas?

Does anyone know if the new plates are available yet? Also, a friend told me that we are required to get a 30-day permit until we receive the new plates. The permit cost him $500 pesos. We already paid at the finance office in February and were told to come back for the plates. They never said anything about a 30-day permit. It seems odd that we would have to pay for a 30-day permit after already paying for the new plates. Can anyone confirm or deny? I have been carrying copies of the documents received from the finance office for proof of payment if pulled over. Is that sufficient?

Plates arrived mid April. Have heard nothing about a 500 peso permit. We have all of our paperwork ready, but they won't give him our plates because he no longer has his permanent residency card. When he was given his certificate declaring him a naturalized citizen, they took it. Next step is to go to get the INE card that everyone official wants. Can't get it until after the elections in June. So, no INE card, no placas, nothing for ID except a beautiful certificate with his picture and information on it.

Friends who are only here for the winter have been told not to worry, pick up their placas when they return.

The credencial INE is no longer going to be our official ID. We are transitioning to a new CURP.

Here are some details: Implementación de la CURP como identificación oficial

Interesting. Is it safe to assume that Guerrero isn't doing it yet?

I should have clarified that I was referring to plates for motos in my original post. Did they tell you when they are expected or that you needed to purchase a 30 day permit until the plates are in? Thanks for saving me a trip to the finance office!!

We have seen one moto with the new plates, so obviously some arrived sometime.

Don't fall for the 30 day trip permit. It's BS. You have your proof-of-purchase in your paid receipt. Make a copy and keep with your vehicle. THE END!
