FINALLY! Rain! The first of the season. The sweet aroma of petrichor was the first clue. I smelled it before I saw or felt it. I'd just returned from walking our dog, and was running up and down stairs flipping switches and filling our cistern and tinacos. Perfect timing. This Friday evening it looks like it wants to rain some more. The municipal government got a very late start cleaning the canals this year, and there was a lot of trash left in Canal La Boquita when I walked past this morning, now all washed into the bay. Bummer. There should be signs warning people not to swim in the bay right now, but unfortunately our municipal government isn't as responsible or preventive as it should be, as many citizens are complaining about these past few days due to other events.

The mar de fondo finally showed up this afternoon. A day later than predicted. Not extremely large waves like a couple of weeks ago, but big enough that it could affect the water taxis to Isla Ixtapa, causing the pier at Playa Linda to have to close.

Around 1,200 athletes are in town to compete in the Triatlón this Saturday morning in Ixtapa. I hope the mar de fondo or the rain doesn't ruin the event for them. The tide will be low during the morning, so maybe the mar de fondo won't be problematic except getting past the breakers, but the swimmers should be used to that.

Remember, the Eco-Tianguis Sanka will be in the small plaza across from the museum this Saturday from 8:30 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. Come enjoy arts, crafts, good food and drinks, music, educational talks, and lots of good vibes and wonderful people.
