Sorry if this has already been discussed and I’m just not savvy enough to find it. Is anyone else freaking out about Intercam bank? I have been banking there very happily for the past couple years and have a fairly significant amount of money currently invested in a time CD. A couple of days ago I received a WhatsApp message from my banking lady that they were no longer able to transfer money between Mexico and the United States. I have read the US news about the accusations of money laundering by Intercam and two other Mexican banks and it’s concerning . I won’t be back in Mexico until next week to deal with this and am wondering if I will ever see my money again. Does anyone know anything more about this? I’m so surprised no one has mentioned anything as it seems like the majority of Intercam’s customers in Zihuatanejo are Americans and Canadian.
Thanks very much for any info.

The Mexican government is backing Intercam. That tells me all I need to know. The problem is if U.S. banks stop doing business with Intercam although the U.S. regime hasn't offered a shred of evidence of their accusations. Sounds like a U.S. bank must've bought some of the Insurrectionist's cryptocurrency, the currency of criminals.

I remember back in the days when Mexican media was under the thumb (or heel?) of the dinosaurs in the PRI. There was an expression about the media, “Why am I being told this lie and why now?”. I sometimes ask myself that question about information coming from US sources now.
When those who physically attacked the US Capital are proclaimed to be heroes and patriots we know why that lie is being told. In this instance it is not so clear, so I think of an American adage, “Follow the money.” Who benefits financially from this?

Yes, US media mainstream media is completely in the tank and currently useless. It's a sad independence day as we see our independence and freedoms eroded at a frantic pace along with the vile disgusting evil and hate spewed and fomented by the ruling party and their orange demented leader. I keep waiting for the vast majority to wake out of their slumber, but I fear that when that time comes it will be too little and too late.

MAGAt cult followers are always wrong. It's part of their ethos and brainwashing. They are brainless racists creaming their pants over the ethnic cleansing being carried out in their name by their new police state that's now receiving more funding than the Marines. What's left of the clickbait for-profit opinionated corporate-owned MSM has now been kowtowed and cowered by the Insurrectionist, taking another page out of the Dictator's Handbook. They're normalizing criminal behavior by the fascist regime to please the oligarchs.
They've still not presented any evidence to back up their claims about the banks they're accusing. Nothing.
Gringos need to tread lightly outside their borders right now.

They can say what they want, they are entitled to an opinion, but they are not entitled to their own facts. Fox News, One America News, Newsmax - all state propaganda. CNN, ABC, NCE - regularly bend the knee to dear leader. 60 minutes and other programs regularly firing reporters and journalists that do critical reporting of this regime. MSNBC pretty much the only left wing outlet out there. AM Radio talk shows - nothing but a cesspool of right wing Christo-Fascism. Podcasts - Rogan, et all, all in the tank for "dear leader". No, it's not schizophrenia, it's much worse. It's a devolvement into an authoritarian regime that wants to control media content, education and every aspect of our daily lives with their doctrine of kowtowing to the oligarchs and their cruelty and hate of anyone who doesn't look exactly like them with their pasty white skin tone, or in the case of "dear leader" smeared orange makeup.

As a Canadian I shake my head when I see any of the American corporate, capitalist media as being “left-wing”.
Corporate capitalists are the epitome of the right. Corporate capitalist media is the mouthpiece for those corporate capitalists.
The idea that any American media is left-wing shows how far right the entire ethos has become.

To address your point more, the short answer is no, thinking no issues.
Clearing money through the US Bank system is the only thing they cannot do. I suspect this will be cleared up shortly using a clearing account in Canada.
I have already made normal money movements on two different accounts I have there.
The US to date has offered NO EVIDENCE to support the banking stoppage. I have my feeling why they did this but will not announce those yet.
I completely expect business as normal except for American wires.

If you go to https://www.intercam.com.mx/ you will get information regarding the actions taken by the Mexican government to help keep your assets safe.
During the past week, I have used my Intercam debit card for online purchases and I have transferred funds to other bank accounts using the app. All transactions have been completed successfully, but all have been non-US transactions.

The sanctions have been delayed until September 4. You have time to move to another bank. We opened an account at Banco Inbursa when we lived in Zihuatinajo. Great Centro location across from Merza.
At this time all deposits at Inbursa earn 6.4% monthly. A 30 day investment is 8%.

Well, it’s been very interesting for me to read the responses from everyone, I’m glad that it provided a bit of an opportunity for people who feel as I do to vent a little about the current US administration and our disgusting embarrassment of a president. The only one I never was really clear on how they felt was Rob HaHa.
That said I appreciate the input on the banking situation. Another detail I learned after arriving back in Ziuha is that in addition to not being able to transfer money between the US, I am also no longer able to deposit or even change cash dollars at Intercam presently. So basically thanks to the orange man my entire currency system here has been disrupted.
In spite of the inconvenience and the slight potential for loss, based on all of the research I’ve been able to do, and in support of Mexico, I have decided to let my investments at Intercam ride for now. Hopefully if others do the same it will prevent a total collapse and we can return to business as usual in the not too distant future. As I said I have been very happy with my experience banking with Intercam the past 4 years.
Thanks very much for your comments, I really appreciate it

Aaron:
Well stated. I do not want to see a run on Intercam and hope that others will hold tight and be patient. The folks at the Zihua Intercam branch have been nothing but helpful and supportive of Sue and I and we don't want to lose them.
That said, I hedged my bets today and spent 4+ hours setting up a new account with ScotiaBank. We'll leave most of our funds in Intercam and for the time being, will use the Scotia account as a transfer mechanism only.
I tested a Wise (transfer app) transfer from my US bank account to Intercam this morning and received an error that "We cannot send to this recipient. We currently cannot support payments to this bank."
So I'd say that any rumors around successful transfers into Intercam from the US are suspect at best.
Best,
Brent

I received a call from the U.S. Embassy advising me that they will no longer deposit Social Security checks to Intercam and to help me with the process of updating my bank info. I thought this was a very helpful effort by the U.S. Embassy. But unfortunately it seems no matter what Mexico or Intercam do, the U.S. government has condemned Intercam to failure. Since they've provided zero evidence to the Mexican government or the public to back up their claim about Intercam "laundering money" or being "used to buy fentanyl precursors", I can't help but believe this is simply a ploy by a criminal U.S. government to do a favor for whoever bribed the Pedophile-in-Chief to eliminate a competitor. The rest of the world no longer sees the U.S. government as honorable, trustworthy or honest, but simply as a tool for greedy oligarchs who appear to be in control. Hard to believe this is the world we now live in.

Cross your fingers, toes and everything else. As of April, any change to your Social Security payments, especially automatic deposit changes, require an in person meeting at a Social Security office. That means Mexico City, here. Friends of both yours and ours already have had to do it.

I have two accounts there and one my property manager is on. There has been no issue with transferring money to his account and making withdrawals.
While I am sure this will DING them a little, but hard to see them folding. Tons of Canadians do business there and Canada has not sanctioned the bank because they work with facts.

The question to ponder would be: If America would cease to exist tomorrow, would ANY bank in Mexico fold?
The quick answer to this question is, "Absolutely. And many other banks around the globe would fold, also." On the surface, it is unthinkable even to ask what would happen to the global financial system if over one quarter of the global economy disappeared overnight. On the other hand, under the malfeasance, corruption, cruelty, mismanagement, <insert-your-own-dire-economic-term-here>, the possibility of a major failure of the American economy and subsequent fallout around the globe is no longer a remote flight of fantasy. Along with the inflation-igniting tariffs sparking a global trade war and the recent killing of the messenger of the sinking employment statistics, the Mango Mussolini has toyed with "creative" ways to make the U.S. deficit -- poof! -- disappear from monetizing it with kleptocurrencies to actually defaulting on the debt. It's worked for Agent Orange in the past, right? Run a casino into the ground? No problem! Just move any assets into a corporation sheltered somewhere offshore, declare bankruptcy, and -- poof! -- all your debts disappear and you can go on to the next scam.

Trump has ordered that “improper ideology from such properties” as the Smithsonian. Of course, we have some indications of what he thinks are improper ideologies.
Then of course the removal of the commissioner of labor statistics because he didn’t appreciate her speaking the facts as best as they are known.
This has resulted in people remembering Orwell’s 1984.
But before we assume that Trump will repudiated, remember a couple of quotes from a contemporary of Orwell, Aldous Huxley, in Brave New World.
“One believes things because one has been conditioned to believe them.“
and
“Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted.”
Twelve hundred days is a long time to become conditioned to things and to then take things for granted, when the person in the most powerful elected position in the world keeps saying those things. Remember how many Americans have been conditioned to believe that Trump won the 2020 election and…
Forty percent of U.S. adults ascribe to a strictly creationist view of human origins, believing that God created them in their present form within roughly the past 10,000 years.

How in God's name did we allow this man-child to be elevated to such a position of power?
The evil genius of Murdoch and Roger Ailes is that they realized early on that most voters make their decisions below the belt, something Democrats have yet to learn. Endless propaganda, lies, gaslighting, and outright bullshit by right-wing media gives a tingle upside the leg to their highly suggestive viewers and keeps them addicted and bubble-wrapped in their cozy fantasy world. As long as Fox and Newsmax continue to spew their garbage I see no way out of this mess. Perhaps the best we can hope for, if we survive this Trumpian dystopia, is a kind of soft autocracy, the Singapore model, where at least Things Get Done but at the expense of civil rights, human rights, the Bill of Rights, and free and fair elections, all would-be quaint, archaic notions. And that's the best we can hope for.
On the other hand, the American Economic Empire is soon to be over. In the immortal words of Michael Ray Richardson, the ship be sinking.

While I Admire your thoughts on the Orange Mussolini. I really do not think Intercam will be forced to close because of Traitor Felon 47's actions.
Intercam is a best a Regional Bank with just about zero international ties. I offer this as a fact to the Mexico Bank system:
While Mexico's banking sector is dominated by a few large institutions, it's not considered saturated in the traditional sense, especially when considering the significant portion of the population that remains unbanked or underserved.
So back to my original thoughts. Intercam will take a Dent or Ding but sheer numbers will keep them in the game.
But make no mistake, I think Felon 47 did this on purpose.
