The mar de fondo predicted for Friday didn't show up here until this Saturday, and it's barely noticeable inside the bay except at the pier at high tide where waves wash up the ramp by the fish gallows. It was another beautiful mostly sunny day for us in Zihuatanejo. We got a brief sprinkle at sunset, and that appears to be it for rain today. However, rain is possible in the late afternoons and evenings for the next few days.

I imagine the businesses near where the buses used to park and that for decades have grown and depended on those tourists for business aren't too happy with the lack of foresight by the municipal government now that those visitors have to walk over a kilometer to their lodging from Las Salinas. Over and over again it's made obvious that our politicians don't make their living from tourism like the rest of the community does, though some of the sleazier ones continue trying to get away with ecocide to build their tourist development megaprojects, the most recent being in Troncones, unfortunately. They can plan countless silly parties but not plan a simple parking area for our visitors who come on tour buses and whom many local businesses NOT located near Las Salinas have come to depend on.

Tourists continue to arrive in large groups of families and friends, and local merchants are enjoying increased sales. Waterfront restaurants downtown were doing a good business this evening, and I expect the bars will be busy (and quite noisy) later. I also expect the region will fill up with visitors quite noticeably during the coming week. This weekend in comparison is like the calm before the storm.
