Summer Trip Report

I had another lovely trip down to Zihuatanejo and La Ropa Beach this summer. As I’ve mentioned in previous trip reports, summer remains my favorite time to visit. The flowers are in bloom, it's quieter than high season, and if you can handle the heat, it’s truly a magical time to be there. Thankfully, I had air conditioning—because it was definitely hot this trip—until the light summer rains rolled in and cooled everything down.

I wanted to share a few food and beach photos to give a glimpse of my time in what I consider “paradise.” I’ve been fortunate to travel a bit this year—with some great experiences in Guadalajara and other countries and island destinations—but Zihuatanejo continues to be my happy place. It's the one spot I imagine myself spending longer stretches of time once the opportunity arises.

La Ropa Beach was as gorgeous as ever—well-maintained, peaceful, and picture-perfect. I enjoyed strolling the newer beachfront walkways, sipping drinks (maybe more than a few) at La Perla, enjoying some craft cocktails at The Thompson, and knocking back a few cold beers at various local spots. I know La Perla can be a bit polarizing here on the forum, but for me, it’s a nostalgic place to relax with a drink under the palapa and watch the day drift by. Met an old friend on top of Villa San Sebastian to check out the new pool, highly recommend for food and drinks in the high season, hard to imagine a better view.

The food scene, as always, was outstanding. I didn’t keep close tabs on every meal, but a few standouts were Carmelitas (always a favorite), Soleado in Ixtapa, Los Braseros, and a lively new Aperol Spritz bar (name escapes me, but very fun), Jungle Pizza, to name a few. I also had some excellent breakfasts at small spots in town—I’ll let the photos jog your memory since the names have slipped mine for now.

It’s not too hard these days to snap a few pics and share a story—most of us have a phone in hand anyway. I encourage more people to post trip reports again. That’s always been the spirit of this forum: an escape into the beauty, flavors, and laid-back rhythm of this amazing corner of the world.

Thanks so much for enjoying our paradise yet again. We agree, summertime is the best! Hot, but that is what siestas and AC is for.
Next time, try Mole Negro. Easy to get into "off season" and delightful. They have a great website.
Maybe we waved at you when we were paddling, if not, wave at us next summer!

¡Muchísimas gracias! What a nice trip report! Love the photos and especially the food choices. They look like my daily meals, and I love them all! It's certainly a privilege for me to call Zihuatanejo home.
