La Canícula has arrived in force along with the tourists. Today got steamy as soon as the sun climbed over the hills and gave Zihuatanejo its full attention. The bruma got heavier and heavier as the day wore on, acting like a magnifying glass for the sun. Some folks say it's smoke from the oil-burning power plant at Petacalco. It's going to be a hot and humid night for sleeping.

I feel bad for the bus tourists we saw arriving this morning and struggling with their suitcases and coolers as they lugged them along with children and elderly family members all the way from Las Salinas lagoon at the end of Cinco de Mayo to hotels closer to Plaza Kioto. Especially the elder folk looked like they were having a rough time. A shame the city didn't act sooner to have an alternative parking area ready closer to the old one. It's not like they didn't know what was going to happen, but they preferred to ignore it. And these are the tourists the city is responsible for attracting in the first place. We did see a few more affluent tourists out this evening during our stroll, but local merchants still aren't seeing any significant increase in sales.

The mar de fondo continues driving massive waves against our shores. In Zihuatanejo's bay the waves don't seem to be hindering swimmers too much, but along the beaches fronting the open ocean they present quite a danger for most people. Let's hope we don't see any drownings this summer vacation season.

Keeping fingers crossed we get the rain forecast for this Saturday night.

Don't miss the Eco-Tianguis Sanka this Saturday from 8:30 A.M. until 1:30 P.M in the small plaza in front of the Vicente Guerrero school across from the museum. Come enjoy arts, crafts, good food and drinks, music, educational talks, and lots of good vibes and wonderful people.
