Ecologia strikes again on la Ropa

by Talley Ho @, Playa la Ropa, Tuesday, August 05, 2025, 10:51 (458 days ago)

We paddle our SUP's most mornings, early, leaving from the alley between Villa Mexicana and The Thompson. We return between 8:30 and 9, before it's very crowded.

When the showers have water, we rinse ourselves and our boards before storing them in our bodega in the alley.

Today, a woman from ecologia told us that the showers are only for people. Worse part??? We were conversing with a man from Guanajuato, in English, he instigated the conversation. The woman from ecologia spoke to him in Spanish and asked him to tell us we couldn't use the showers with our boards. He looked at her and said, "They LIVE here! Speak Spanish, too."

As we walked away, I turned to my sweetie and said that I would continue to rinse myself and my board anyway. His response???

Do you want to be put in a choke hold, cuffed and arrested? Excellent point.

What about all the visitors who rinse off their beach inflatables, towels, chairs? Or is this only for gringos?

This is DISCRIMINATION, and I'm going to say it appears to be only against GRINGOS.

You are TAXPAYING RESIDENTS. You have MORE right than any visitor to use the phuqing PUBLIC SHOWER. This is intolerable, but it fits a pattern of the current municipal administration, which is actually a continuance of the past one.

Is there a sign there that says the showers are NOT for locals or EXCLUSIVELY for visitors? No, because that would be illegal.

This is discrimination against Gringos.

You should insist on speaking with Israel Campos or really anyone higher up than these toadies who likely only have their jobs because they supported the political candidate in power and went to their rallies, not because they possess any particular qualifications. Find out if it was actual POLICY or just the personal prejudice of the Ecología toady. Because if it's POLICY, then I think the rest of us who live here have a right to know. The stupid Blue Flag policies already keep most locals from going to La Ropa like we used to. As a community, we already voted AGAINST the stupid Blue Flag policy. Not allowing locals to use the PUBLIC FACILITIES at La Ropa would bring about quite a public outcry, especially with "gentrification" being such a hot topic in Mexico lately. Except in this case it's due to the MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT, not foreigners.

I have seen plenty of discrimination against locals not being wanted in the tourist areas. The worst was probably Bay View Grand Marina in Ixtapa, I will not rent there anymore and they are probably happy about it. And no I was not bringing in unregistered guests, we always rent a larger condo and register our friends as guests along with getting them wristbands if needed. But what would you expect from a place that will not allow a small pool float. Yet when we venture out to restaurants rarely visited by gringos, we are very welcomed. I know some of you speak of the ugly Americans but the upper class Mexicans can be extremely demeaning to locals that work for them. Many locals here working too hard for too little money not really even getting by.

My employees appreciate guests from Canada and the US.

They show me their discomfort when I tell them that guests from Mexico City will be arriving.

Their experience is that “gabachos” (they increasingly use that term over “gringo”) treat them with respect and tip well whereas “chilangos” are disrespectful, demanding, dissatisfied, and frugal despite their wealth.

Of course, there are individual differences with some Mexican guests being a pleasure. And they find some gabachos “distant” as if they are uncomfortable having hospitality workers so present. But these are the general impressions that they have.

That is a bit to unpack. :omg:

I have a hard time believing that this is the policy of the mayor. You might try communicating with her to get the problem taken care of. If this is simply the Ecología worker discriminating against you, then she deserves a good reprimand from her boss, but if it's from her boss, then he deserves to be fired.

UNFORTUNATELY

Trump's RIDICULOUS war on Mexico has created a backlash of indignation among Mexicanos

...Next thing you know, mass deportations for those over staying their visas?

I think I can bring myself to understand the idea that fresh $ water should be used for rinsing people (all people) but not for surfboards.

One of the many reasons we became citizens.

While commendable. When walking down the street we are the same color.
Is anyone going to care in a moment.
