This Friday was another one of those lost weeks for lots of schoolchildren in Mexico. Even though today was supposed to be a school day, lots of families on vacation with their kids can be found in Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa. Many didn't bother with school at all this week except to rehearse for and later march in the parade. And of course, their winter vacation starts a month from now from Dec. 22 to Jan. 11.

Today was another warm day that got up to 34°C. No breeze at all until we got an almost imperceptible breeze from the hills in the early evening, but you only noticed it if you were walking against it.

The ocean remains so calm there are almost no waves. Even Playa El Palmar in Ixtapa has been perfect for swimming. The tiny waves at La Saladita have been frustrating for surfers. Be sure to check out the webcams on my BEACHES page.

The big whoopteedoo at the Cancha Municipal this evening was the José Martí school celebrating 25 years. It looked like a lot of fun for the students. The music of Guerrero was great!

Deborah's Restaurant is accepting reservations for her wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner. There will be two seatings: 5:30 and 7:30 P.M. The pumpkin pie alone is worth it, but she'll also have her homemade cranberry sauce, stuffing with gravy, light and dark meat cooked to perfection, soup, salad, and other goodies.

Don't miss the Eco-Tianguis "Sanka" that happens every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:40 p.m. in the small plaza in front of the Vicente Guerrero school, across the street from the Museo Arqueológico de la Costa Grande in downtown Zihuatanejo by the waterfront where La Boquita canal runs into the bay. Besides wonderful handcrafts, they feature a variety of homegrown produce, fresh foods including pastries, breads and tamales, fresh coffee, juices and mezcal.

[image]For a peaceful and stress-free vacation getaway take a look at Casa Delfín Sonriente. A spacious and verdant 6-bedroom private beachfront villa with a pool on Playa Troncones that can be rented in its entirety or as individual suites and bungalows by the day or by the week. There's an outdoor BBQ area and areas for various outdoor activities. Any closer to paradise would be hard to get.
