The kill tournament currently going on at the municipal pier awoke much of Zihuatanejo this morning with their too-loud loudspeakers and the thumping bass of music at 6:30 this morning. Unfortunately, our municipal government still doesn't get it that folks on vacation don't want to awaken to thumping sounds that early in the morning. It's obvious they don't know much about tourism, sorry to say.
Local shops in Zihuatanejo are enjoying increasing sales. I wish I could say the same for Ixtapa, but things seem to be going from bad to worse for them. The municipal government's only response is to plan to spend millions of pesos on more painted cement and call it "remodelling", the official business of the current mayor and her husband, the previous mayor who is running to be mayor again. #PobrePueblo
Tourists continue arriving, and the travelers arriving by air are who Zihuatanejo benefits the most from. The increase in air routes from places like Monterrey, Puebla and Morelia is making a difference this year. Mexican tourists along with Canadians are making up for the loss of tourism from the USA, which is embroiled in social and political turmoil causing people not to travel outside the country. Writing that I saw on the wall over 36 years ago when I left the USA for good. I hope they straighten out their problems in the States, but it looks like it's going to get much worse before it gets better.
Ready for the Posadas? Here they come!

Nuestra amiga Lola toma un poco de sol sentado debajo una palmera al mediodía frente a la bahía de Zihuatanejo mientras unos turistas también gozan de la playa.

"causing people not to travel outside the country"
Not all of us are hiding in our basements. Just returned from a week in Zihua last month (I can think of no place on earth I would have rather celebrated my 68th trip around the sun) and we are already planning for an extended stay in the coming year, hopefully bringing our puppies and staying for a couple of months.
Yes, the authoritarians and billionaires continue to try and assert their power, but there are signs that the sleeping giant may be beginning to awake. Maybe it's the eternal optimist in me, but I believe the decent people of the US will eventually retake this Country from the evil grifters.

Come to Cabo, you will see where all the gringos went. Been going to Cabo much more lately than Zihuatanejo as it is so much easier to get to than Zihuatanejo, also the fishing is better. When I mention Cabo here back home everyone knows what I am talking about and many have been there. On the other hand when we mention Zihuatanejo everyone asks where is that. Surprisingly AI is not a huge thing in Cabo, many popular hotels are not AI and the restaurants are having great success. Don’t know how much of this tourism problem for Zihuatanejo with the U.S. is truly related to the U.S. government encouraging its citizens not to travel to Mexico. Most of the time I would prefer to go to Zihuatanejo but the travel is too expensive and or difficult for a short trip. Also I’m an old guy that discovered this place on a cruise back in the early 2000s when cruise ships actually came here. No clue how any young U.S. citizens would discover Zihuatanejo now. Any advertisement I see for Mexico is Cabo, PV, Cancun and Tulum. That being said I am coming back in March and June.
