LaPorta from Ixtapa
Recent messages stated that there's a Bodega and fruit & vegetable markets in Laporta. How far is LaPorta from Ixtapa? Is there a combi in Ixtapa that goes to LaPorta? Is there much of a difference in going to the Bodega in LaPorta vs Zihautenejo's Bodega.
Thanks.

La Puerta de Ixtapa is accessible from the Carretera Nacional 200 behind Ixtapa. Please see the interactive Google map on my MAPS page.

The Bodega Aurerra in la Puerta is quite small. Check it out.

I remember when La Puerta was a small town and I believe at one point the entrance to Ixtapa from Zihuatanejo.

While it may seem like a village, it used to be a large humedal full of majestic parotas and open grassy areas, most which of course were cut down. I believe it belonged to the Palacios family, if I recall correctly from several family get-togethers we went to there in the late 80's to early 90's. It was never the entrance to Ixtapa. That has always been the same road as is used now.

I remember when the road to Zihuatanejo ONLY went through La Puerta

Hola
What were you smoking at the time? Can I get some?

I’m just a vacationer but what is the attraction of La Puerta vs the Mercado in Zihua? I have bought fresh chicken wings, fruit, everything needed for salsa, fresh tortillas and totopos at the Mercado area. Go have a nice meal and then do your shopping.

Depending where you are in Ixtapa, you can reach La Puerta by combi, walking or cycling. There is a new cyclepath from Paseo de los Viveros - next to the CFE ( electric substation) to the main road of LaPuerta. We do 99% of our business in LaPuerta. Altho the Bodega is smaller, it has the all the staples we need ( also a Merza, and Neto) There are a number of fruit & veggie stands, a meat market, fish vendor, a couple of bakeries. Also 3 hardware stores, restaurants, taco stands, gym, laundry service, gift shops, barber, salons, Freddy's bar. Start engaging with the locals, they are friendly and helpful!

Our first trip was in 1985, took 3 months, drove down the east coast into Belize and Guatemala, then up the west coast. Spent two nights in Ixtapa. That started our regular explorations by road of this country. Mostly pre toll roads, and the road here was basically along the back edge of Ixtapa as we remember.

It’s about a 25 minute walk from the main boulevard in Ixtapa to the walkway just past the CFE on Viverios. Then take the new walkway beside the CFE into La Puerta only a 10 minute walk to Bodega from there.
There are many little tiendas selling fruits and veggies as well as butchers and fresh fish vendors.
There are also pharmacies, Bodega , Merza and Neto
Lots of great restaurants and cafes, our favourite is Concha y Cafe a very small restaurant/bakery that Jorge and his wife Maggie run. They have the best sour dough bread, coffees, cinnamon rolls , breakfasts and great dinners as well as sour dough pizza on the weekends.
We love to take the Combi to the mercado in Zihua from Ixtapa to shop but La Puerta is extremely handy and has everything you need.
There is also Combi that runs along the main boulevard in Ixtapa that goes to La Puerta and you can also catch one in Zihua to La Puerta as well.
Great community, very friendly people there just as in Zihua
We ride our bikes there almost every day from Ixtapa.
Give it a try you willl love it and make sure to stop at Concha y Cafe for some sourdough bread. You can find them on Facebook.
Tell Jorge and Maggie, Grumpy says Hola!!

You can have that same experience in La Puerta it’s just something different, smaller community less busy, try it next time you are in Zihua
