Level 4 travel warning

The US State Department up-dated the travel warning for Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa to a level 4 (Do not travel too). Last year the area was level for for the State of GRO but the local Ziu/Ixtapa was level 2.
Has crime increased since last year?
My family is very concerned that MY wife and I are traveling to Ixtapa for a
6 week stay.
Really -- How dangerous is it now?

You have an incorrect assumption and/or information.

There has been a level 4 travel ban in Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa for at least 8 years. by the subjective US government. But time fly's and it is probably more like 12 years.

Yeah, I believe it goes back to the Bush Jr. years. But I could be mistaken. It seems like forever.
