Travel Insurance

Hey all, does anyone have suggestions on travel insurance for Mexico? My wife and I are in our late 60's, staying for 5 weeks and are from the US, although we won't be admitting that publicly.
We've always just winged it without insurance, but feel it's time to purchase something this year.
Thanks.

We are from the US, have been here 9 years. We find it best to just self insure. Costs are actually affordable here. Good luck.

Maybe affordable but the real story is the fact that healthcare is extremely limited in Zihuatanejo.

Very true. Good discussion of that below. Makes us really try to take good care of ourselves.

If you currently have health insurance, you may already have coverage. I was surprised to find our blue cross policy covered us. (They would not pay directly to the provider, we would pay, they reimburse.) This was regular insurance, not Medicare.

Doc is there a limit to number of days per viit? What we have based on our health care non provincial coverage is good for the first 40 days

Sounds like Canadian insurance, so I have no idea. Prior to retirement our insurance that was supplied by our jobs, basically had the same coverage abroad as at home. The difference is that we paid the provider and then were reimbursed. We are now covered by Medicare, which doesn’t cover our of country care, but our Medicare supplement does provide limited coverage; 80% of charges with a $50,000 lifetime limit.

We’ve been visiting Zihua for 19 years. I purchase insurance through a site called Insure My Trip. There are multiple companies that offer it and you can compare policies. My interest is in health/evacuation insurance. You can purchase coverage for the total cost of the trip or just health and evacuation coverage. Hope that’s helpful ✌️????????️

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question. It was helpful. We can't wait to return again this season to enjoy our beloved Zihua!
