Otra Noche de Gran CelebraZIHón
Friday evening's Fandango Cultural at Plaza del Artista was another evening of fun music and dancing. A group of musicians whom I believe were mostly from Tixtla, Guerrero played the folkloric style of music from their region. Couples took turns dancing what we call zapateado de tarima, Mexican folk dancing. Some were dressed quite elegantly, others more casually. All were excellent! All were a pleasure to watch. Some songs had them imitate various animals and characters, especially the male dancers. Some had them act out a story. Such pure fun, and a wonderful truly Mexican cultural experience. The plaza was full of mostly Mexican locals, though a few foreigners were among the audience, and others strolled by apparently on their way to somewhere else even though THIS was the place to be.
The waves got smaller overnight, and by Saturday morning they were barely noticeable in Zihuatanejo Bay. I suspect local surfers were fairly disappointed at today's offerings. The weather may be summerlike, but there are no big storms at sea sending waves our way. Forecasts show the weather for the upcoming week to basically be a repeat of last week with more southerly breezes and even a small chance of rain coming.
With Día de San Valentín coming up in 3 weeks, now's the time to be thinking about making reservations at your favorite local restaurant. It WILL be a busy day, one of the busiest restaurant days of the year.

Not many visitors around today, but of the ones who were, the extranjeros made up a sizable portion. Along with the nationals currently visiting, it looked like everyone we saw in our part of town was certainly enjoying themselves. ¡Bienvenidos!
Don't forget to visit "Las Iguanas Bazar" in La Ropa next to Casa Tucanes this Sunday from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. where you'll find a fun time, the wonderful works of local artisans and merchants, and lots of sustainable products.
