Lupita and I enjoyed watching Elvis in "Blue Hawaii" Monday night on TCM. She said she'd never seen it before. She loved it! Such a fun movie. What a treat for us both!

Visitors were again swimming at Playa Principal before the sun had even broken the horizon this Tuesday morning. A joy to see. I didn't feel like alarming them by informing them that the creatures with the biggest teeth tend to feed from dusk to dawn. They were having such a good time. ;-)

The so-called arctic blast affecting Canada, the States and parts of Mexico is expected to lower our local temperature by 1°C. Nevertheless, the temperature reached around 33°C this afternoon in downtown Zihuatanejo on another absolutely picture-postcard-perfect day. Still no snow in the forecast.

The cruise ship Amadea is expected here this Thursday morning. So don't be alarmed if you hear her anchor drop around 7AM.

Keep up with cruise ship arrivals, local holidays, local cultural events, and other goings-on on my Community Notices & Events page.

The Mexican peso is currently $17.19 to the U.S. dollar. I'm holding out for $12.50 again, just like it was when I first came here in 1974. Now's a good time for Mexicans to buy U.S.-made products. Hold on to your pesos! Invest in México! B-)

I remember about 40 years ago when he introduced me to Blue Hawaii. What a fun thing!! So nice that you two were able to have the same experience!

Of course should the dollar decline to 12.50 pesos, many of us would seek less expensive places to visit.

Living in California 12.5 to 1 would still have Zihuatanejo as affordable. My days in Cabo at that rate may be over until it changes again. I can definitely live with the stock market growing while the dollar shrinks against the peso. At some point in time a recession will hit, the market will drop and the exchange rate will go the other way.

Not that long ago, when the dollar was more valuable, prices in Mexico were a 'bargain." Those days are long over. Many of the restaurants and in general the prices at grocery stores are equivalent to what I pay at home. Should the dollar continue its slide, it will end up being more expensive than home, which I think, will cause many to vacation elsewhere.

Oil plays role in the MXN -> USD also. It's been staying surprising strong in the 60's for a while which is good for the MXN. But if there is a glut because of the Venezuela situation or blockades it could weaken the Peso. A lot of unknowns and bluster within that industry right now. Most likely just chest thumping, we'll see.

Also remember the effects of the dropping US $ on remittances. Key Aspects of Remittances to Guerrero:
Economic Impact: Remittances contribute significantly to reducing poverty in Guerrero, with around 65,000 people estimated to have been lifted out of poverty in 2024 due to these transfers. In 2022, remittances in Guerrero exceeded foreign direct investment by over 1,000%.
Volume & Growth: Despite a recent national slowdown, Guerrero experienced growth in remittances in 2025. Historically, Guerrero was among the top seven states receiving nearly half of all remittances in 2021.
