Tuesday morning was almost as cool as Monday. Had to close a window and turn the fan on low. Never did find my mittens before taking our dog for a walk.

Once the sun came out, it warmed up quickly. The temperature reached just over 31°C, but a nice breeze kept folks comfortable in the shade. Wednesday's surf is expected to pick up with waves over a meter in height along the coast outside the bay.

It's been a bit melancholic to watch the building next to our former home being torn down to make a larger parking lot for Hotel Ávila, whose other beachfront parking lot they sold to someone (según el chisme fue el alcalde anterior, pero no me consta) who is apparently going to build another hideous condo project. The western side of our former home hadn't been exposed to the sun or the weather since the mid-50's. We watched a couple of generations of our neighbors grow up there. And just like that another piece of old Zihuatanejo disappears with all the stories it had to tell.

This is the time of year when the fires start breaking out, some from carelessness, others on purpose. Developers and land invaders take advantage of the season to do bad things, while campesinos prepare their parcelas for planting according to tradition as tlacololes.

Don't miss an evening of Danzón en Plaza del Artista this Wednesday starting at 6PM. Come join in this old Zihuatanejo tradition passed down through generations. I urge visitors to watch how the dancers move, and feel free to join in.
