The cool mornings continue, but the sea was much calmer this Friday. It's also much cooler ar 25.9°C. Brrrrrr! Locals won't be in the water much until it warms back up. Too cold for us! But it didn't seem to affect our visitors who were enjoying the calm ocean today well into the evening.

The mar de fondo is expected to return this Saturday, with waves under a meter and a half, but by Sunday they'll be back to around 2 meters and by Monday and Tuesday they'll be around 3 meters, quite large and dangerous. Expect the piers to be closed when the waves get that large. But the surfers will be out, including at Playa Las Gatas for those adventurous enough to walk there. Probably also at La Madera for the less adventurous.

Tonight's going to be noisy with the start of the Carnaval festivities. The thumping of the sound system at the Cancha Municipal will easily be heard throughout the bay, and the musical groups at Las Salinas will add to the cacophany. A lot of people aren't going to get a good night's sleep until Monday night, so take advantage of siesta time to get some extra shuteye. Don't forget to visit "Las Iguanas Bazar" in La Ropa next to Casa Tucanes this Saturday and Sunday from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. where you'll find a fun time, the wonderful works of local artisans and merchants, and lots of sustainable products.

Also, the Eco-Tianguis "Sanka" happens every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:40 p.m. in the small plaza in front of the Vicente Guerrero school, across the street from the Museo Arqueológico de la Costa Grande in downtown Zihuatanejo by the waterfront where La Boquita canal runs into the bay. Besides wonderful handcrafts, they feature a variety of homegrown produce, fresh foods including pastries, breads and tamales, fresh coffee, juices and mezcal.
