¡FeliZIHdades a los Artesanos!
Thursday morning wasn't very cool for very long. While most of the country is enjoying much cooler weather than normal, it seems to be warming up here along the Costa Grande. I think it only got down to about 23°C last night, no thanks to all the cement retaining the day's heat. It's supposed to get down to 21°C tonight, which is perfect. Still no snow in the forecast.
Today is International Artisans Day. ¡Muchas felicidades a nuestros artesanos!
During the Carnaval parade last Sunday, I found many other scenes around me that were just as interesting as the Carnaval. The other night I posted a rather artsy-fartsy photo of the lighting on the rooftops and the lights of the first float in the distance as the Carnaval was just starting. Tonight's photo is of a scene in Plaza del Artista that I thought was interesting because of the presence of so many Guardia Nacional. Normally we hardly ever see them except passing by in trucks, but we always see them whenever our mayor is present. If only normal citizens could count on having the same security.
Hardly any visitors around. It seems like most of the foreigners here are Canadians, but there don't seem to be as many as last week. And there are almost no Mexican visitors around. Usually the weekend before Semana Santa we get a rush of the people who have to work during Semana Santa.
I'm surprised the city hasn't even begun taking down any of the Carnaval decorations. They're looking rather worn and tacky, and they've been vandalized in many places. Someone stole one of the two large Oscars at the Puente Blanco (the footbridge that crosses the canal between the museum and Plaza Kioto).
The ocean has calmed down. No more mar de fondo. Though there are still some surfable waves at the favorite local spots along the open ocean. The largest waves this Friday will be only around a meter high, but mostly less than that for the coming week.
