Labor and Capital

Oh how the US has changed.

Can you imagine the current president, or any recent president proclaiming the following?

"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed". "Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration".

They would be politically pilloried as being “socialist, communist, fascist, radical left”. Yet those are the words of Abraham Lincoln, the first Republican president.
