An empanada de manzana, a bowl of fresh fruit and a licuado de plátano made for a delicious breakfast this Wednesday morning, accompanied with fresh locally grown coffee from the sierra of Guerrero. What a privilege to be able to enjoy such fresh delicious fare. Thanks in large part to our favorite vendors at the Mercado Municipal who are all quite concerned at the municipal government's terribly slow progress at remodeling the market. A job they were initially led to believe would be finished by now, though it's not even close, and the heat and the looming rains only add to their anxiety and disappointment.

We keep trying to get up to take a morning stroll and do our chores before sunrise, but wouldn't ya know, the dang sun keeps rising earlier. B-)

The rain a couple of weeks ago didn't turn any hillsides green, as some people were hoping. And the municipal government is woefully lacking to keep up with watering what's left of our public green spaces. It doesn't help that they keep pouring gravel over much of them either since it only causes them to dry out faster. I don't think we've ever had a municipal government less friendly to trees, gardens and plants in general than the current one, which is an extension of the previous one. Bummer!

Of course, many of us are wondering how much longer the few remaining trees and areas of actual dirt ground have left at the pier where the demolition continues of the perfectly good building that was there. They removed the awnings that provided shade and apparently cut the power because the entire pier was in total darkness this evening. Not fun for visitors, captains or locals who had to use the pier after sunset. But since the people doing the so-called remodeling never actually used or visited the pier except for infrequent fiestas, they don't appear to be the least bit concerned about anything other than pouring their cement and of course billing the taxpayers for it.

Barely any visitors around today. A few, but they appear to have brought their own food and drinks, because the downtown waterfront restaurants barely did any business today, and most were empty this evening when we strolled past, except for La Porteña, always popular with locals and repeat visitors.

The water temperature has reached 30°C. Almost 2 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year. Not much surf until this coming weekend, peaking at around 2 meters by next Tuesday. Still no rain in the forecast.

Plenty of good restaurants are within easy walking distance. An easy place to relax and forget about the troubles and stress of the rest of the world. (click to enlarge image)

Una vista que ya no existe en nuestro Muelle Municipal de Zihuatanejo ya que el gobierno municipal tumbó estos postes con sus lonas para una obra de muy dudosa necesidad.

It is so sad to see how poorly this current and previous administration are prioritizing their budget spending. How the whole remodel of the mercado is handled is disgraceful! Not only should had been finished by now but the timing of it was all wrong and should never had taken this long. Was it needed? I believe so. But a proper plan should have been made to ensure the least issues for the vendors and to minimize the economic impact for the peak season. The same went on for several downtown projects, with pedestrian street and sidewalks being redone in the middle of peak season. Ridiculous! I know of many shop and restaurant owners that were fuming about it, but of course can't publicly complain due to the political ramifications. And now this remodel of the pier area is absolutely not needed. Most people who seem to be in favour are those who need to support the administration for political/business reasons. It is so obvious that this is to create more profit for the next electoral campaign and certainly not for helping tourism in Zihua as if this was the case, this project would be way down on the list of things needed.

Sadly, regarding security and safety in Zihua I think we will just see a decline in the upcoming years and not improvement. I know of several families sending their kids away for education and planning for them to move away. More and more people do not see Zihua as a safe place for their families anymore after seeing too many successful businesses being threatened. Looking at what is going on with PKS is not comforting. And let's not talk about 2 separate people gunned down in the last 24 hours in Zihua.
