:cloudwithlightningandrain: Roaring thunderstorms danced all around Zihuatanejo Bay during the night, but we didn't receive a drop of rain downtown. The temperature dropped noticeably, and at sunrise this Monday it felt refreshing, almost cool. Certainly much cooler than other mornings this past week. Then, early in the afternoon while I was working all of a sudden I heard doors vibrating and windows rattling, and I thought we might be about to have a quake. But it turned out to be the wind. Like a freight train out of nowhere, a strong relentless wind from the southeast blew the fronds on the palm trees straight back, roared through Plaza del Artista and the downtown streets sandlasting everything and sending people shouting and running for cover. The lights went off briefly. Something bumped on the rooftop. Then the rain came in hard, stinging the skin and causing more people to flee the open air for shelter. After about an hour the worst of the wind was over, then it kept raining gently for another couple of hours, and it has continued so off and on since then. Perfect tropical weather!

After the Mad Pedo meddled with FIFA, and since Mexico lost after they played their hearts out and dominated most of the game, losing more due to a bad referee than a better English team, the general feeling seems to be that the USA-Belgium match taints the entire World Cup from here on out. Mexico can handle bad officiating. It's cost them games before, but never has the president of a nation meddled so brazenly in an ongoing World Cup. So maybe some of us will watch the Final, but many of the fans won't be watching any more matches this year. The Mad Pedo ruins everything he touches.

Higher taxi and combi/Urvan rates are officially being applied now. I've had them posted for a while, but taxis said they were holding out applying them, though many users say they've actually been paying them for a while. Just so ya know.

Okay, I couldn't help but watch the USA-Belgium game. I was hoping the U.S. coach would respect the red card in spite of the Fifa ruling and not use the player who should've sat out the game, but that didn't happen. So when they lost 1-4 it felt a lot like karma.

America is running out of representation at the World Cup. :-o

Honestly, along with the endless outrage I feel for the criminal enterprise that is inhabiting the White House, now I am thoroughly embarassed by how we in the U.S. are presenting ourselves to the entire world. It is even more jarring when the rest of the world is seeing how Canada and Mexico are comporting themselves.

Nowhere is this more evident than when you compare how the U.S. treated the Iranian team with how Mexico treated them. After each match in the U.S., the Iranian team had to return to Tijuana. What a vulgar and disgusting host! And now watch how the Mexicans treated the Iranians:

Mexican Fans Give Iran an Emotional Farewell

I keep wanting to wake up and have this all be a terrible nightmare.

The #USMST US Mens Soccer Team did not lost once in the Round of 16. We lost three times.

First, we lost when our so-called leader intervened, making an unprecedented request to ignore well-established rules of what a red card actually means.

Second, we lost when the US coach and our team did not simply say "NO THANK YOU. We'd rather compete fairly, and we refuse to accept political favors. We'd prefer to play by the rules."

Finally, the team lost to #Belgium 4-1. But that was not the most important loss. The bigger ones involved the abandonment of basic moral values such as playing by the rules and refusing to accept special favors.

That it happens as we celebrate #America250 makes it even more sad IMHO. America has long been a beacon to the world on so many moral issues. On this one, we scored an own goal.

This is his view of his place.

Apparently Infantino does not disagree.

You don't think the idea of appealing to Trump originated with the US side, or higher-ups in Soccer USA, or whatever the US governing body calls itself? Trump couldn't tell the difference between a soccer ball and a ping-pong ball.

NO DOUBT some type of Quid Pro Quo. It is how the Felon President operates.

Hotel related question
I've been trying to phone the Catalina at the number I've been using for decades but I keep getting a message in Spanish that I, am abashed to say, don't understand except for Lo Sentio. Does anyone know if the Catalina has changed their phone number or how I can reach them via phone.
I want to book my usual room for the Christmas. I've emailed but have received no reply and online it appears the hotel is full from Dec. 18th until mid or late January. I know this is the busiest of all seasons however I am usually put on a wait list and managed to book a room.
But perhaps a change of venue after four plus decades! OMG..how did that happen? :) is in order. I do love to stay on La Ropa...
If anyone has any suggestions I would truly appreciate your input. Thanks.

Further on the sports thing. I am more of a basketball fan than soccer but have noticed how the World Cup has brought such a lot of joy and fun to the thousands of fan in Vancouver...very heartening to see...
Enter the man with the Mordor touch spewing grossness.
Remember how delighted and joyous New Yorkers and the rest of us were at the Knicks games until tRump decided to pay a visit, ruined everyone's watch party etc... and the Knicks lost that game!! Fortunately they prevailed in the end and what a game that was!
I agree that the USA soccer loss though unfortunate was not unexpected due to tRump's casting his frail ego all over it.
Appears to be a trend...everything Donny touches turns to whatever the opposite of gold.
He even pathetically tried to horn in on Taylor Swift's wedding...seriously??

I see it's raining in Zihua...The hills must be turning green.
Que tengas un buen dia.

I am not sure, I don't know enough. It is just disgusting, the level of corruption is unbelievable. Alas, I am not surprised anymore - not by T or by FIFA.
